Poser: Netflix orders young adult drama about toxic friendship from 'Awkward' creator

Netflix has ordered a brand-new young adult drama titled Poser, centering around toxic female friendships from the creator of the MTV dramedy Awkward. The drama aims at exploring the toxicity of certain female friendships through a sexy and emotional thriller, which tries to look back in the past to understand why a friendship falls apart, while the present is a psychological warfare full of betrayal, heartbreak, and revenge.

The series comes from Lauren Iungerich under her overall deal with Netflix, which led to the dramedy series On My Block, Freeridge, and Boo, Bitch.

In light of Adolescence's success at the 2025 Emmy Awards, Netflix greenlights a brand-new Young Adult drama from Lauren Iungerich. While Poser and Adolescence are completely different genres of works, both of them tackle issues that young adults are facing. While Adolescence was a much more serious take on an equally serious issue, Poser is a dramatized look at something that many young adults are suffering with on a daily basis.

Toxic friendships can be the bane of one's life, especially at an age when friendships are the most important things in life. The latest drama explores the story of two best friends who fell out of their friendship years ago. However, in the present, one of these girls has the golden chance to live the dream life that she has always wanted and a chance to get answers about their broken friendship.

However, as she finds herself living her dream life and getting answers that have always troubled her, she also finds herself right in the middle of a psychological war. An exaggerated term, but nothing else can describe the game of revenge, betrayal, and heartbreak that she finds herself in. The official logline from Netflix reads as follows:

"Poser explores toxic female friendship through the lens of a sexy, emotional thriller. When one of them is given a chance to live the life she’s long coveted, and maybe get answers as to why they fell out years ago, she finds herself in a psychological game of revenge, betrayal, and heartbreak — ultimately altering their lives, and those around them, forever."

There are no casting or release details available at this time, as the drama is still in its early stages. However, we do know that the series is set to be eight episodes long, and each episode will be an hour long.

Poser comes from Lauren Iungerich, who is set to act as creator as well as showrunner, and executive producer Jamie Dooner for Crazy Cat Lady Entertainment.
