The Gilgo Beach murders are once again in the spotlight as Prime Video has ordered a docuseries based on the gruesome killings. The show promises to tell the inside story of the murders that took place between 1993 and 2011 in Long Island, New York.
After the remains of multiple women were found buried at the beach, the police carried out an extensive investigation, which ultimately led them to the serial killer responsible for the deaths.
Prime Video has not yet announced the title of the docuseries. Also, this is not the first time that the murders have become the subject of a true crime show. Earlier this year, both Netflix and Peacock came up with their own iterations of the story with the shows Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer and The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets, respectively.

Apart from Netflix and Peacock, a number of other platforms and networks have also made content on the Gilgo Beach murders, including Investigation Discovery’s Unraveled: The Long Island Serial Killer, NBC’s Dateline: The Hunt for the Gilgo Beach Killer, and the 2020 mystery drama film Lost Girls.
While greenlighting the Prime Video series, Amazon promised that their version will be different, as it will give ‘voice to the voiceless’ and offer ‘new exclusive insights and compelling questions.’
The show is being produced by Nacelle Company and Empress Films and directed by Emma Cooper, who previously worked on the documentaries The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes and Depp v. Heard. Cooper released an official statement talking about the upcoming project and said:
“Working on this story has been a profound privilege. To sit with the families, to hear their voices, and to witness the tireless commitment of law enforcement has offered an insight that is as heartbreaking as it is vital. Ultimately this is their story, and I am deeply grateful to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust and support in allowing me to tell it with honesty and care.”
Cooper will also serve as an executive producer on the series along with Eben Davidson, Cisco Henson, Phil Donlon, Brian Volk-Weiss, and Matt Ochacher. The Gilgo Beach murders involve a string of killings that took place on Long Island, New York, between 1993 and 2011.
In 2010, police discovered the remains of the first victims while searching for missing woman Shannan Gilbert. Over time, more remains were uncovered, with many belonging to women involved in sex work. In 2023, architect Rex Heuermann was arrested and later charged with seven murders linked to the case.
