Netflix is now preparing for Running Point Season 2, as production officially begins in Los Angeles. Kate Hudson returns as Isla Gordon, alongside Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, and the rest of the main cast. Production runs through November, with a planned premiere in April 2026.
The confirmation about Running Point Season 2 came in March, as Hudson stated:
“A good basketball team owner knows when to listen to the fans. So we hear you, and so did Netflix. ‘Running Point’ is officially coming back for Season 2!” Thank you so much everyone who watched the show so far! I’m just beyond thrilled because you’re really the reason why we’re able to come back and do another season. So thank you and we’ll see you next season!”
Kate Hudson will once again lead Running Point Season 2 as Isla Gordon, the daughter of the Los Angeles Waves’ owner who unexpectedly becomes team president after her brother resigns amid scandal. Determined yet underestimated, Isla must prove herself to her brothers, the board, and the sports world.
The ensemble includes Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Jay Ellis, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Max Greenfield, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Roberto Sanchez, Uche Agada, Dane DiLiegro, and Justin Theroux. Created by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, the single-cam comedy is produced by Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers including Hudson and Lakers president Jeanie Buss. Although it’s not yet known what Running Point Season 2 will be about, a cliffhanger from Season 1 has set the stage for the sequel.
What fans can expect from Running Point Season 2
Across Season 1, Isla navigates the politics of professional sports, sibling rivalry, and her own self-doubt. By the finale, she is confident in her ability to lead—until an unexpected twist creates uncertainty.
The Waves reach Game Seven of the Western Conference Semifinals, their most important match in five years, but narrowly lose to Portland. The defeat affects Isla after a season spent proving herself, and her personal life remains complicated. Her engagement to Lev (Max Greenfield) is uncertain after a month apart, and although she asks for reconciliation, he says he needs more time.
Meanwhile, coach Jay Brown (Jay Ellis), who is leaving for a job in Boston to be closer to his children, reminds Isla of her impact on the team and kisses her in a significant moment.
The next day, Isla enters work feeling confident, telling herself, “I got this. This is mine now.” Her confidence falters when she finds Cam, freshly cleaned up, sitting in her chair, feet on the desk, and saying, “Hey, what’s up, sis? I’m back.”
The finale ends with Isla surprised, setting the stage for the second season.
