Sadie Sink's Max Mayfield was one of the most memorable characters of Stranger Things, and days after the show ended, the actress is opening up on how the show had a diverse set of characters from different backgrounds, and all of them came together to celebrate their uniqueness.

Responding to a letter given by a fan Simone, who thanked Max's character for bringing out her creative side and thanked Sadie, who brought the character to life. Calling the letter "kind" as she read it out loud, Sink reflected on her own time on the show as Max, and said,

"Max was the first kid introduced on the show that kind of had like a complicated home life. Another girl on the show, who doesn't have any superpowers, but like has her own strengths, her perseverance. Stranger Things just has such a great variety of characters. Like a celebration of being unique and how our differences are all our own kind of superpowers. It's such an honor to play one of them and be that for someone."

Sadie Sink’s Max Mayfield is one of the most emotionally layered characters in Stranger Things, and her journey across the seasons quietly becomes one of the show’s most heartbreaking arcs.

Introduced in the first season as a cool, tomboy girl who Lucas and Dustin immediately start liking and being fascinated by, especially after her high scores on Dig Dug. Although Mike takes some time to warm up to her, and Eleven even more so, Max quickly becomes one of the most important parts of the group, a dynamic which is seen in full blow in the third and fourth seasons.

The show explores her volatile relationship with her family, particularly her step brother Bill Hargrive who mistreats her. However, things go haywire in the third season when Billy ends up being possessed by the Mind Flayer and soon goes on a kind of killing spree before sacrificing herself to save The Party.

By season 4, grief had consumed her. Max isolates herself, believing she deserves punishment for wishing Billy had gone. This emotional vulnerability makes her Vecna’s prime target, leading to some of the series’ most devastating moments. Her escape to music becomes a lifeline, but the cost is immense. She is left blinded, broken, and eventually comatose. However in the fifth season, she finally escapes and helps the others to finish the job that has been haunting Hawkins for the past many years.
