If you know and love Scott Speedman from ABC's Grey's Anatomy, you're going to soon see him star in another ABC show during the 2025-2026 broadcast season. As Variety reports, ABC has ordered a new series RJ Decker starring Scott Speedman as the lead character.
The show is based on the novel Double Whammy by Carl Hiaasen and is adapted by Rob Doherty. Another Carl Hiaasen novel that recently got adapted into a show is Bad Monkey, developed by Bill Lawrence.
ABC's new series RJ Decker based on Carl Hiaasen's novel starring Scott Speedman
RJ Decker is the current title of the show, which may or may not be the final one. The show will be set in South Florida where a man named RJ Decker (played by Scott Speedman) decides to start a career as a private investigator after his previous one failed. But this experience isn't going to be as smooth as he wanted it to be.
According to Variety, the show's logline states:
"RJ Decker (Speedman) is a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida. The series follows him tackle cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, and a shadowy new benefactor, a woman from his past who could be his greatest ally… or his one-way ticket back to prison.”
Other than Scott Speedman, the rest of the cast includes stars Kevin Rankin as Aloysius Aiken, Adelaide Clemens as Catherine Delacroix, and Bevin Bru as Melody Romero. The role of a character named Shay Bennett is yet to be cast. Weruche Opia was initially cast in the role, but she won't be continuing in the role, and hence it will get recast.
Rob Doherty has not only adapted the novel for the show, but is also an executive producer on RJ Decker along with Carl Hiaasen, Carl Beverly, Paul McGuigan and Sarah Timberman. McGuigan has also directed the pilot. Scott Speedman is not only starring as the titular character, but is also executive producing. The production studio behind the show is 20th Television.

RJ Decker will be released in the 2025-2026 broadcast season, but it is yet to be known exactly when that might be. But we can tell that it won't be during the fall season as the only shows scheduled for a fall release are High Potential, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Nashville, Grey’s Anatomy, Abbott Elementary, and Shifting Gears. Thus it might get released mid-season like The Rookie, the Scrubs reboot, and Will Trent. An airing time is also yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more updates.
The released seasons of all the above-mentioned ABC shows are streaming on Hulu.
