The Severance creator, director, and executive producer, Ben Stiller, recently talked about his experience of being able to interact with the fans online. Stiller explained how he didn't have the chance earlier, when he was growing up, to be able to interact with the creators of the content he consumed.

But now social media and the internet have made it possible for fans to talk about their opinions regarding the content they consume online and for the creators to be able to consume these reactions directly from the fans. The Severance creator deeply enjoys interacting with the fans online.

Here's what Stiller said about his fan interactions online post-Severance.

Lately, the Severance creator Ben Stiller has been extremely active on his social media. He is seen interacting with fans and even going back and forth with some of them. When talking about this to Variety at the Season 2 FYC event, Stiller revealed how he considered the ability to be able to interact with the fans like this a privilege.

He explained how, growing up, he, like most of his generation, did not get the chance to interact with the people who created the content that they would watch. So, now that fans are able to openly express their views and opinions on the internet about content they're consuming, like Apple TV's Severance, he finds it extremely inspiring to interact with them.

"I find it, actually, really inspiring to be interacting with the audience because we never had that, my generation growing up,"

Stiller also talked about the fact that even when he goes back and forth with a fan who doesn't like something that Stiller has created, he still enjoys those conversations, as something positive always manages to come out of these conversations.

"When somebody doesn’t like something, I’ll go back and forth with them sometimes and I find that fun, too, because usually once you start talking to somebody or interacting, something positive can come out of it. It’s also kind of fun."

Stiller explained that even in conversations where someone doesn't agree with his point of view, once he starts interacting with a person, he has fun, and maybe he'll even learn something new. Interacting with the audience online is a double-edged sword, as sometimes, people commenting online forget that they're talking about real people since they're hidden behind their keyboards. The internet can be a mean place, but Stiller explained that he doesn't take all of these conversations seriously enough for them to negatively affect him.

"And at the end of the day, I don’t really take it that seriously."
