Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk thinks it was destiny for Squid Game Season 2 to come at this hour when his home country is undergoing political turmoil.

The highly anticipated South Korean show is set to release its Season 2 on Netflix, and a grand premiere was held at Seoul’s futuristic Dongdaemun Design Plaza on Monday.

South Korea was amid a political crisis after President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an Emergency martial law.

Seoul had been in a state of deep political unrest after thousands of people took to the streets to protest against this order, which made it impossible for the creators to hold a premiere for the show.

Squid Game finally premiered in its home country a week after it recovered from the aftermath of President Yoon's order.

Creator Hwang upset with Seoul's political unrest weeks before Squid Game Season 2

South Korea has been in a state of deep political unrest since President Yoon declared an emergency martial law, which was revoked six hours later after the National Legislature unanimously voted against it.

While thousands of lawmakers prepared to vote for Yoon's impeachment, he is reportedly preparing for his resignation.

Amidst this political unrest, Soeul is also preparing to welcome the Second season of its beloved show Squid Game, which strengthened the Korean Wave globally and brought the country to the attention of many international audiences.

While creator Hwang is excited to release Season 2, he was saddened to see the state of his home country just weeks before his series premiere.

“We have to take to the streets. Whether it’s by impeachment or stepping down himself, the person responsible for declaring martial law has to take responsibility. I hope that we can return to a state of stability and that the Korean people can enjoy a festive holiday season as the year comes to an end — the people deserve to have that returned to them.”

He added,

“Season two draws a lot of parallels with what we are witnessing in the world right now. And with a heavy heart, I feel that watching the second season of Squid Game is not going to be very different from watching the news — and that’s how I want you take it.”

“The reason that the show was loved by so many around the world is because it’s such a Korean subject — with Korean games at the center of it all — but the sentiment the story carries is so universal''
