The Institute just got renewed for Season 2 at MGM+ and we cannot be more excited. This news comes right before the big Season 1 finale which is set to drop on August 24. Just like the first season, the next one will also have 8 episodes. The show has already built a strong fan base and people are loving it. The Institute is proving to be one of the best shows for MGM+ this year.
The series is based on Stephen King’s 2019 novel of the same name. It brings all the creepy, suspenseful, and emotional layers you would expect from a King story. Dark experiments, children with supernatural abilities, and a shady institution at the center of it all.
The series is developed and written by Benjamin Cavell. And he executive produces it with Stephen King himself, and Jack Bender, who also directs. The cast is just as strong with Ben Barnes leading as Tim Jamieson, Joe Freeman playing Luke Ellis, Mary-Louise Parker as Ms. Sigsby, Julian Richings as Stackhouse, Robert Joy as Dr. Daniel Hendricks, Simone Miller as Kalisha, Fionn Laird as Nick, Hannah Galway as Wendy Gullickson, Martin Roach as Chief Ashworth, and Birva Pandya as Iris.
The Institute renewed for Season 2
In The Institute, children with telekinesis, telepathy, and other mind bending powers are exploited for their abilities. Instead of protecting these gifted children, the facility experiments on them and tests their limits.
So far in Season 1, we’ve seen that Luke Ellis is a boy with extraordinary abilities. He is taken away from his family and locked inside The Institute. Along the way, he meets other kids like Kalisha, Nick, and Iris, who share the same fate. Together, they try to survive under Ms. Sigsby and her team's control and manipulation. On the outside, Tim Jamieson, a former cop, starts to discover the truth about the place. When his path slowly crosses with Luke’s, they team up to bring down the facility.
Stephen King is just as excited about the show's renewal. He said in a statement:
"Set free but hunted, new dangers await the escapees from the Institute, and I can’t wait."
The head of MGM+, Michael Wright, said:
"The Institute has thrilled audiences with its distinctive storytelling and exceptional performances that expertly bring the singular voice of Stephen King to the screen. We’re so happy to be able to continue and expand this chilling journey and dive even deeper into the secrets of The Institute in season two."
Benjamin Cavell and Jack Bender said:
"We’ve been so gratified by the response to our first season, which is a testament to the dedication of our fantastic cast and crew. We’re thrilled that Michael Wright and everyone at MGM have enabled us to continue Stephen’s powerful and timely story. From this project’s inception, we’ve felt there would be much more story to tell as our brilliant characters continue to navigate their way through the dangers of the world they’re facing."
Now, with Season 2 on the way, fans can relax knowing the story won’t end just yet. MGM+ believes in this show and in the way it brings Stephen King’s world to life.
So, will Luke and Tim finally take down the facility? Or will the secrets only get darker the deeper we go? Season 2 will answer some questions but, being Stephen King, it will probably give us even more mysteries to think about.
