Stick is Apple TV+’s latest swing at original comedy, and it’s already making waves. With Owen Wilson leading the charge, the series premieres on June 4, 2025, starting off strong with three episodes dropping right away. After that, it’ll settle into a weekly rhythm, with new episodes landing every Wednesday through July 23.

The trailer just dropped, and from the looks of it, Stick is more than just laughs. It brings together redemption, mentorship, and just enough chaos, all wrapped in the world of golf. It’s the kind of story that might catch you off guard with how relatable it feels, especially if you’re into second chances or watching people figure things out together.

How and where to watch

Everything kicks off on June 4, 2025, exclusively on Apple TV+. The first three episodes go live together, and after that, you can catch a new one each Wednesday leading up to July 23.

If you’re not subscribed yet, Apple TV+ offers a 7-day free trial for new users, perfect for checking out the show without committing off the bat.

And no need to stress over how to watch. Whether you’ve got an iPhone, iPad, smart TV, laptop, game console, Roku, or Fire TV, the series is ready to stream wherever you are.

A story about missed shots and fresh starts

At the heart of Stick is Pryce Cahill, a former golf pro who’s been down on his luck for a long time. Played by Owen Wilson, Pryce is dealing with the fallout of a failed marriage, a job he just lost, and the nagging sense that life’s passed him by. But everything shifts when he crosses paths with Santi Wheeler, a 17-year-old golf prodigy with serious talent and a complicated past. Peter Dager plays Santi with the kind of edge that makes you instantly root for him.

Instead of walking away, Pryce sees something in the kid. Maybe even something in himself. He decides to mentor Santi, hoping that guiding someone else might help him get his own life back on track. The series leans into that dynamic, using the golf world as a backdrop to explore family, failure, and how connection shows up in the most unexpected ways.

Owen Wilson steps into something rawer, and it works

We’ve seen Owen Wilson play the charming everyman before, in Wedding Crashers, Marley & Me, Loki, and plenty more, but in Stick, there’s something a little messier, a little more worn-in about Pryce. He’s still got that signature Wilson ease, but this time it’s layered with insecurity and regret, which makes the character feel grounded.

Wilson isn’t just acting here, he’s also an executive producer, which says a lot about how much he’s invested in telling this story the right way. Pryce isn’t polished. He’s struggling. And that’s exactly what makes him worth watching.

A cast that knows when to hit hard and when to keep it light

Backing up Wilson and Dager is a cast that brings plenty of personality. Marc Maron plays Mitts, Mariana Treviño steps in as Elena, Lilli Kay plays the sharp-tongued Zero, and Judy Greer rounds things out as Amber-Linn. Timothy Olyphant also shows up in a special guest role that’s still being kept under wraps, but let’s be real, he’s always a win.

And if you’re a fan of the sport itself, you’re in for a treat. Real-life golf stars like Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, and Wyndham Clark all make cameos. Even legendary broadcasters Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman pop in, giving the series an extra dose of authenticity.

Creative muscle behind the scenes

Stick is created by Jason Keller, who you might know from Ford v Ferrari. He’s the showrunner here too, pulling the strings behind the scenes. And the directing team? It’s stacked. You’ve got Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton (Little Miss Sunshine), David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers), Jaffar Mahmood (The Great), M.J. Delaney (Ted Lasso), and John Hamburg (I Love You, Man).

The series comes out of a partnership between Apple Studios and production companies like Wise Monkey Entertainment, Propagate Content, Entertainment 360, and Piece of Work Entertainment.

Trailer’s out, and it’s got bite

The official trailer dropped on May 8, and it hits just the right notes. You get quick banter, real emotional stakes, and that offbeat tone that makes it feel like something more than a typical sports comedy. It’s clear the show has heart, and a bit of bite too.

So, what can we expect?

With a lead you want to root for, a story that’s got both warmth and wit, and a cast that knows how to land a punchline (or an emotional gut check), Stick feels like one of Apple TV+’s most promising premieres this year. Whether you’re in it for the golf, the drama, or just looking for a good redemption arc, this one’s worth adding to your watchlist.
