Stranger Things Season Five has marked a glorious return to Netflix, and alongwith the familiar faces fans have met throughout the series, there are also some new faces, including Nell Fisher as Holly Wheeler. The role was previously played by twins Tinsley and Annie Price, and as Fisher takes over for the final season, the character has also taken center stage, and a lot more attention and importance.
The actress spoke to People Magazine about taking on Holly's role, and how she met the Price twins to prepare as she told the outlet,
“Holly definitely does have a lot of development this season and she's definitely got a bigger part. I actually met with the Price twins, who played Holly in the previous seasons, which was really nice. We talked about her and her character.”
She then added how Finn Wolfhard, who plays her brother Mike Wheeler and has been a part of Stranger Things since the very beginning, helped her through her debut in the show. Talking about her friendly relationship with Wolfhard she continued,
“We were really good friends. I mean, he's such an amazing guy. He's definitely been really helpful talking about what is to come, because he did this when he was younger. He was around the same age, and he's given a whole lot of helpful advice.”
More details about Holly Wheeler's character on Stranger Things Season Five
Holly Wheeler has been part of the Stranger Things world since the first season, but Season 5 finally places her at the heart of the story. She was portrayed by Anniston and Tinsley Price through the first four seasons, before Nell Fisher steps into the role in Season 5 to play an older Holly who becomes directly involved in the supernatural conflict.
Talking about her character, producer Shawn Levy told Tudum,
“For this season, the Duffer Brothers wanted to centralize Holly as a main character. Many, many years ago, we had two 3-year-old twins play Holly, back when I was shooting her following Christmas lights down a hallway. So this time around, there was both an opportunity, but also a necessity, to find someone to play Holly who is around the same age — that innocent, defining age — that our kids were when this started.”
Fisher knew from the beginning that she would be portraying a very different Holly than the one audiences had grown up with. Talking to Tudum explains that Holly had always mattered, but from a distance. Season 5 shifts her into a leading position, giving her agency and momentum.
Creators Matt and Ross Duffer intentionally parallel Will Byers’ disappearance in Season 1. To bring back the theme of childhood vulnerability, they titled the second episode The Vanishing of Holly Wheeler, mirroring the show’s very first chapter.
Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
