S.W.A.T. is sadly coming to an end soon with the release of the final episode of Season 8. The two-part series finale will be aired on May 16, 2025, and will conclude the journey of Sergeant Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson and his team of officers.
In the finale, the officers have some high-stakes cases to handle, including the hijack of an auto carrier truck and a hostage situation in Los Angeles. S.W.A.T. executive producer Andrew Dettmann has now teased what to expect from the final episode.
In an interview with TVInsider, Dettmann said Hondo and his team are going to face their biggest challenge yet in the last two episodes of Season 8. Hondo will not only have to protect his team, but also keep them together:
“Heading into the finale, Hondo is going to be challenged to keep the team together. He has always referred to and thought of 20-Squad as a family, but now that notion will be tested like never before.”

Andrew Dettmann added that the officers will be going against a formidable group of Russian mercenaries who try to take Los Angeles hostage by planting bombs across the city.
The team gets into danger, and it becomes Hondo’s priority to keep them safe. Explaining how the S.W.A.T. finale has something in store for all the main characters, Dettmann said:
“Deacon realizes what really matters to him at SWAT. Tan considers a new career path within the LAPD. Powell and Alfaro cement their bonds of friendship. And Gamble makes a life-altering decision about her role with the team.”
The executive producer further revealed that the characters’ bonding in the finale will be a reflection of their real-life chemistry, as the actors and the crew members have started considering each other family after spending eight years together:
“It’s a reflection of how our cast and crew have become so incredibly close over the course of the show, and those relationships and affections feel only stronger knowing that we’re near our end.”
“By shining a light on the respect and commitment each of the characters have for each other, we’re giving a nod to our larger family and the bonds we’ve made.”
CBS announced S.W.A.T.’s cancellation after eight seasons in March this year. The series had been canceled twice earlier as well, but the decision was overturned due to popular demand both times. The audience was expecting a similar outcome this time as well, but the Season 8 finale has been confirmed as the show’s final episode.
S.W.A.T. Season 8 finale is scheduled to air on CBS on May 16, 2025.
