The new adaptation of 1989's The 'Burbs is being brought to fans by a sharp ensemble that will take you back to the gags and horror of the original film. Created by Celeste Hughey and based on Dana Olsen's film, the show follows a couple who move into a new suburb, only to realize things are a little wonky in and around and the town may not be the "safest" town in America as she is made to believe.
The first trailer has already laid down the bricks for the horror comedy, showing us a brand new setting but an old premise, reimagined in a newer, edgier way. With that, the show is also led by a fine cast, who are bringing the story to life again.
Cast of The 'Burbs

The 'Burbs is led by Keke Palmer as Samira and Jack Whitehall as Rob. They are joined by Julia Duffy as Lynn, Paula Pell as Dana, Mark Proksch as Tod and Kapil Talwalkar as Naveen.
Apart from the main cast, the show also stars Justin Kirk as Gary, Kyrie McAlpin as Rory, Haley Joel Osment, RJ Cyler, Randy Oglesby, Danielle Kennedy, Max Carver, Erica Dasher, Georgia Leva and Kathleen Kenny.
More details about The 'Burb
Peacock gave a straight to The 'Burbs in September 2024, with Celeste Hughey serving as director. She joins Keke Palmer as executive producers, along with Seth MacFarlane, Brian Grazer, and original writer Dana Olsen. Filming returned to the Universal Studios lot, with Nzingha Stewart directing the premiere.
The official synopsis of the show reads,
“Inspired by the 1989 horror-comedy film of the same name and set in present-day suburbia, THE ‘BURBS follows a young couple who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when a new neighbor moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood.”
In the original film directed by Joe Dante and written by Dana Olsen, Tom Hanks stars as Ray Peterson, a bored homeowner whose imagination spirals out of control when strange neighbors move in. He is joined by Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldman, and Rick Ducommun. What starts as harmless suspicion turns into trash digging, backyard spying, and explosive chaos. In the adaptation, Hanks' role is replaced by Palmer.
The 'Burbs will be streaming on Peacock from February 8, 2026.
