Ray Romano's stint as Raymond on Everybody Loves Raymond was the highlight of his career that brought home three Emmys for him. Naturally, it's a role that is memorable for him for life and it's only fair that he sought out a piece of memory from the show's set as a keepsake. The actor, who is celebrating three decades of the show, revealed this one thing he took from the set of Everybody Loves Raymond, and why he was asked to return it later.
Speaking to People magazine, Romano said that he took the iconic floral couch from the show's set, which was the only thing he wanted to take. Speaking about where he has placed it in his house, the actor said,
“I took the couch and it's in my home theater. I hate saying that I have a home theater, but yeah, it's in the theater.”
But for a short while it seems, as he added that the couch was later taken from him, in light of the show's 30th reunion. Speaking of the reunion, the actor said,
“It wasn't sadness, but it was a little bit of nostalgia and missing and reminiscing. And it was emotional being on the set again."
More details about Everybody Loves Raymond and it's 30th reunion
Everybody Loves Raymond arrived on CBS on September 13, 1996, quietly setting up what would become a nine season run through May 16, 2005. Across 210 episodes, creator Philip Rosenthal built a sitcom that blended lived-in family chaos with razor sharp humor. The series earned strong critical reception and gathered 15 Emmy Awards from 69 nominations.
At the center of the show is Raymond Barone, an Italian American sportswriter for Newsday living on Long Island with his wife Debra and their three children, Ally, Michael, and Geoffrey. Ray’s laid back refusal to take anything seriously often leaves Debra carrying the emotional and domestic workload. Across the street live Ray’s parents, Marie and Frank, and his brother Robert.
Nearly thirty years later, the cast is returning. CBS will air Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion on November 24, a ninety minute event marking the first time the surviving cast has reunited on screen. The date lands slightly early, but Ray Romano and Philip Rosenthal explained that timing was dictated by opportunity and the enthusiasm of CBS president Amy Reisenbach.
The upcoming special will be hosted by Romano and Rosenthal and will feature appearances by Garrett, Patricia Heaton, Monica Horan, Madylin Sweeten, and Sullivan Sweeten. It will also remember Doris Roberts, Peter Boyle, and Sawyer Sweeten. The reunion airs Monday, November 24, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. and will also stream on Paramount Plus.
