Prime Video recently canceled The Wheel of Time after three seasons, resulting in outrage and criticism from loyal fans of the show. The audience was surprised to find that the fantasy drama was axed despite its worldwide popularity.
Following Prime Video’s decision, there was still a hope of the show getting saved by another network or streaming platform. However, according to a new update, that option has also been shut down, as The Wheel of Time is not being shopped to other platforms.
According to a report by TVLine, the show will not be moving to another network and has essentially come to an end. Based on Robert Jordan’s novel series of the same name, the series premiered in 2021 and acquired a dedicated fan following over the years.
The Wheel of Time is reportedly not being shopped to other platforms
There have been instances in the past where popular shows have been picked up by a new platform after being canceled by their original network. Netflix saved the supernatural drama Manifest and renewed it for a final season when it was dropped by NBC. Even Prime Video picked up sci-fi series The Expanse when Syfy decided to cancel it.
Fans had similar expectations for The Wheel of Time as well, but TVLine’s report has revealed that the show will not get saved as it is not being shopped. The update contrasts with showrunner Rafe Judkins’s comments, who recently stated that the series might be following in The Expanse’s footsteps and find a new home.
The showrunner made his feelings known about The Wheel of Time’s cancellation in a social media post, and said he is not aware why the decision was made when the series was generating good viewership:
“I don't know. I wish I could say something clear and tidy that explains to all those who love it why it's coming to an end, but sadly, I can't. What I can say is that the actors and crew on our show are the most talented and wonderful group of people I've ever had the pleasure to work with.”
“Will The Wheel of Time get to do that with another network and finish the story? Sadly, it's not something that happens often. But it does happen. In fact, one of the reasons we first chose Amazon as a home for the show was because they were in the midst of picking up The Expanse after SYFY cancelled it.”
Set in a fantasy world, the show tells the story of a Dragon reborn who is destined to either protect the world from a dark force or destroy it forever. The series stars Josha Stradowski, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Madeleine Madden, Zoë Robins, Marcus Rutherford, and Kate Fleetwood.
The Wheel of Time Seasons 1 to 3 are streaming on Prime Video.
