Milly Alcock has proven herself as an actor par excellence at a young age with her portrayal of young Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon. Her role in the fantasy series made her a household name and earned her several accolades.

However, there was a time on the sets of the hit show when Milly Alcock felt that she had made a mistake by trying to pursue a career in acting, and even thought of giving it all up.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the 25-year-old actress revealed that on the second day of the shoot of House of the Dragon, she was called by an executive who told her they were going to hire an acting coach for her, which made her doubt her abilities:

“It just confirmed everything that I’ve kind of known to be true, [which] is that I’m not very good at my job. You know what I mean! I was like, ‘I can’t do this. This is terrible. This is a big mistake.’”

Recalling the entire incident, Milly Alcock mentioned during the show that a top executive pulled her aside just after one day on the sets of House of the Dragon, and told her that she needed an acting coach. However, the actress did not reveal the name of the executive:

“On my second day on HOTD, one of the — I’m not gonna say who, but someone very high up — pulled me aside and was like, ‘Um, we’re gonna get you an acting coach.”

The host, Jimmy Fallon, told her this certainly wasn’t true, as young Rhaenyra became a fan favorite due to Alcock’s sparkling performance. Her act was so well-received that a section of the audience felt disappointed when a time leap happened in the show and Emma D'Arcy replaced Alcock to play the older Rhaenyra.

For her role, Alcock also received a number of accolades, including a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the Critics' Choice Television Awards. Before starring in the Game of Thrones prequel, the actress had been seen in shows like Upright (2019-2022), Fighting Season (since 2018), The Gloaming (since 2020), and Reckoning (since 2019).

Following her appearance on House of the Dragon, her career has progressed by leaps and bounds. Alcock will soon be making her DCU debut by playing the titular superheroine in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. She is also going to be seen in the Netflix black comedy series Sirens, playing one of the main characters alongside actors Julianne Moore and Meghann Fahy.

House of the Dragon is currently available to stream on Max.
