Former SNL cast members Andy Samberg and Amy Poehler reunited on the latter’s Good Hang podcast on July 8, 2025. Samberg, well-known for works like Palm Springs and That’s My Boy, received a Golden Globe award for his work in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Poehler played the lead role in the 2009 sitcom Parks and Recreation. Michael Schur, one of the writers of the show, was also the co-creator and writer of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Although Poehler did not act in the show, she was one of the guest actors Samberg had in mind.

During a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Andy Samberg was asked which actor he would love to have a guest role on the show. He immediately suggested Amy Poehler.

He thought this idea might surprise fans. However, to get the actress on the show, he joked that they might need to get NBC’s permission. The interviewer was intrigued to know how the episode would unfold if Poehler were in it. Samberg said:

"I assume Leslie Knope and Jake Peralta just making passionate love for a week straight."

On the podcast, Andy Samberg shared that when he guest-starred on Parks and Recreation, it became a different experience. He recalled telling Amy Poehler at the time how much he enjoyed working on the show. Amy's reaction, in his words, was:

"It’s a good life."

The two spoke again after he got the role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Whether to accept the job was a difficult decision for him as he was unsure about returning to TV after seven years on SNL. What motivated him to go ahead was the experience he had in Parks and Recreation.

Andy Samberg and Amy Poehler reflect on Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s impact

As the conversation with Amy Poehler went on, Andy Samberg said that Brooklyn Nine-Nine still had its popularity. He noted that it became more popular after the show became available on Netflix in the U.S., while it was already on Netflix internationally. He said:

"I took a trip, like a family trip to Europe, a couple years ago and it was like because of the Netflix part of it, I was like everywhere. I was like Jake Peralta. I was just telling Fred this too. I felt like I was on Friends. I was like, 'Oh my god, the show is actually really big and people really watch it and kids love it and families watch it together.'"

Nonetheless, he was proud of being on the show as it turned out to be meaningful for him. Andy Samberg also said that he was on good terms with his castmates. Amy Poehler chimed in, saying:

“I mean, it's such a good show and exactly that it you feel like there was a sense of family.”

Amy Poehler asked Andy Samberg to share memories of working with Andre Braugher, who played the role of Raymond Holt. Braugher died in 2023 after struggling with lung cancer.

Andy described Andre as a good person who was filled with kindness. According to him, Braugher was thoughtful, smart, and respected by everyone. Andy also mentioned that their on-screen and off-screen connection clicked right away.
