Actor Jonathan Joss, 59, lost his life on June 1, 2025, in a shooting incident, and a suspect has been placed in custody. Joss was well-known as the voice-over artist of the 1997 sitcom, King of the Hill.

He provided the voice for the character John Redcorn. Although the show came to a close in 2009, a revival has been announced by Hulu, which is set to air on August 4, 2025. The revival season, comprising ten episodes, will be available for streaming on the same day.

According to People Magazine, Jonathan Joss was a part of the revival cast, portraying John Redcorn. On May 30, 2025, the King of the Hill shared a credit sequence on X, writing:

“Better than an Alamo and almost as good as propane. An all new season of #KingOfTheHill drops Aug 4th on Hulu and with #HuluOnDisneyPlus.”

The alleged suspect, Sigfredo Alvarez Cejam, is reported to be his neighbor with whom the late actor had an altercation. When police arrived at the scene, they found him lying on the roadway. On June 3, 2025, the San Antonio Police Department released a statement on X, writing:

“SAPD Homicide is currently investigating the murder of Mr. Jonathan Joss. Despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that the Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his s*xual orientation.”

They also added:

“SAPD investigators handle these allegations very seriously and have thoroughly reviewed all available information. Should any new evidence come to light, the suspect will be charged accordingly.”

What did Jonathan Joss’ spouse say about the actor’s death?

Following Jonathan Joss’s demise, his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, shared a statement on Facebook. He wrote that they were shot while checking the mail at the location of their former residence. That home had previously been destroyed by fire following over two years of threats from locals.

Despite repeatedly reporting the threats to authorities, no action was taken. During that period, the couple faced ongoing harassment, much of which was openly homophobic and rooted in rejection of their relationship. He wrote:

“When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw.”

He went on:

“While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.”

Tristan Kern de Gonzales recalled that he and Jonathan Joss had been unarmed and posed no threat when the shooting occurred. They had been standing together in grief when the attacker opened fire, and Jonathan pushed Tristan out of harm’s way, ultimately saving his life.

Tristan described Jonathan not only as his husband but as someone who had shown him a depth of love many never experience. The couple had recently married on Valentine’s Day and had been planning their future together, including finding a trailer.

According to Tristan, Jonathan Joss lost his life to a person who couldn’t accept their relationship. Tristan was by his side during his final moments, telling him how deeply he was loved.
