Dance Moms star Brooke Hyland shared an update about her mom, Kelly Hyland's ailing health.

Brooke, 27, took to TikTok on Tuesday, June 24, to reveal that her mother, Kelly Hyland, is expected to undergo open heart surgery to rectify her “leaking heart.” Hyland, 54, finished her treatment for breast cancer back in August 2024. Kell said in the video:

“You guys all watched her … finish up her chemo and all of her breast cancer-related things. Unfortunately, right after that, she got news that she needs to get open heart surgery. She has a TikTok but she doesn’t like to post, so I figured I would update you guys so you know what’s going on and you can send all of your prayers her way.”

The reality star first revealed in May 2024 that she was tackling invasive carcinoma, stage 1, grade 3. She was consequently forced to undergo chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. By April 15, she wrapped up the last round of her first treatment.

Kelly Hyland told E! News in May 2024.

“The first red flag was my significant weight loss. I lost enough that others noticed and would ask for my dieting hacks, but there was nothing I had changed in my day-to-day to cause the loss.”

She revealed that she had done a mammogram in March after noticing a lump in her breast.

“I had just had one done eight months prior and the results came back clean. However, this new mammogram and sonogram did not, it came back showing a mass.”

Upon undergoing a biopsy, her ailment was discovered.

In her video on TikTok, while applying her makeup, Brooke Hyland also offered fans an insight into the timeline of her mother's medical procedures:

“She was originally supposed to have surgery on Friday but now she has to go in tomorrow. They are hoping to go in robotically but if they aren’t able to reach her heart then they will have to go in the traditional way … terrifying. Her heart is currently leaking.”

Furthermore, she revealed that her mother had consulted with several physicians before booking her surgery this week, which gave her varying reports on the origins of her leaking heart:

“She’s had a few different opinions from doctors, some say that she’s had it since she was younger and her valve just doesn’t close properly [while] others have said that it might be a side effect of the cancer because it could be a tear. I don’t really know. She’s getting it fixed. Thankfully, some of the scans she had gotten for her cancer actually showed that she had this, which is a blessing.”

She concluded,

“Please send all your love, thoughts and prayers to my mom.”

Brooke Hyland made her debut on the Lifetime series alongside her mother, Kelly, and sister, Paige Hyland. She was seen throughout seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4, which premiered in 2011 and concluded in 2014.

Just last August, Kelly Hyland updated fans with her breast cancer when she shared a video on Instagram of herself ringing a bell, indicating the end of her first treatment.

She captioned the August 20 video:

“Next steps surgery, 20 radiation and 11 more treatments. I GOT THIS.”

In her interview with E! News, Kelly Hyland recalled telling her kids the news as a “very hard conversation for us all," primarily because her own mother had succumbed to cancer in 2019. Kelly Hyland shares Brooke, 27, Josh, 25, and Paige, 24, with her former husband, Randy Hyland. Kelly explained.

“I would’ve liked to have told them in person but a phone call was the best I could do given the circumstances.”

She added:

“I did a four-way call with all of my kids because I wanted to tell them at the same time and make sure they were all given the same information.”

Not long after, Kelly Hyland's second daughter, Paige, revealed that she decided to take her own precautions against cancer. In a December 19 video shared on TikTok, she said:

“Guys, I’m about to go and get a breast ultrasound done. I’m a little bit nervous. I’ve been having a lump on my boob that’s been hurting so I’m getting one done on both of them just to be safe with everything going on with my mom."

She continued:

“I’m hoping its nothing, just like fatty tissue or something, but it’s better to be safe than sorry so were gonna be figuring it out.”

As of this writing, there is no update on Paige's prognosis, and neither she nor her family has spoken about it.
