Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will not have a Season 6. Paramount+ has officially announced that the series will end with its fifth season, which will be shorter than previous seasons. The fifth and final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will consist of only six episodes, marking the conclusion of the show’s run. This announcement was reaffirmed in June 2025, right before Season 3’s premiere.

The creative team behind the show was thankful for getting to conclude their proposed five-season run, highlighting that this was always their plan for the show. The narrative will be concluded as it was supposed to, and fans will get a number of additional episodes to enjoy prior to the series finale, Paramount+ revealed.

The end of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will conclude after Season 5, according to Paramount+. The fifth season will be shorter than the others, with just six episodes scheduled. Some fans were taken aback by the news, despite the show’s popularity and strong reception since its 2022 launch.

None of the current Star Trek shows have gone beyond five seasons, however, and this seems to follow recent trends for the franchise. The executive producers of the show — Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman — said they were thankful to have finished their planned five-season journey. They also thanked the fans and Paramount+ for supporting the series during its tenure.

Production and release plans

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiered in 2022 and quickly became one of the most-watched Star Trek shows in recent years. The third season will premiere on July 17, 2025, and a full fourth season is currently in production. The fifth and final season will begin production later in 2025 and will air after the fourth season concludes.

No release dates have been confirmed for the fourth and fifth seasons, but the show is not expected to finish airing until at least 2027. The first four seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds each contain 10 episodes, but Season 5 will include only six. This means the entire series will consist of approximately 46 episodes, and the show will have explored around 26 new worlds.

Impact on the Star Trek franchise

Ending Strange New Worlds with Season 5 aligns with the original Star Trek “five-year mission” concept. The 1960s Star Trek series never completed its five-year mission, ending after just three seasons.

Concluding Strange New Worlds with a fifth season allows the showrunners to wrap up the narrative they envisioned and advance the story toward the timeline of the original series.

While Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will go off the air, live-action Star Trek is far from over. Paramount+ has renewed Starfleet Academy for a second season, and there is also talk of new Star Trek films — although no specific details have been released yet. The franchise remains active, with more projects on the horizon.
