X-Men ‘97 is gearing up for it's second season next year, but before the show's second run hits the digital screens, Marvel has already confirmed the show's third season. Announced at the studio's panel during New York Comic Con this Saturday, the announcement was accompanied by a trailer that showed the return of the villain Apocalypse, with the X-Men characters lost in time. Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Jubilee and Nightcrawler fight to return to the 90s after having their pasts and futures all messed up.

The announcement signals that the studio may have elaborate plans for the show, given it's success among fans. The original X-Men animated series has a devoted fan base, and the revival has given new life to the heroes' animated avatars. By announcing a Summer 2026 window and a third season, Marvel is signaling long-term plans for its animated slate and a willingness to build an interconnected mutant saga on Disney+.

As of now, fans are still waiting for more trailers, casting news, and deeper reveals about which villains and timelines will dominate Season 2 of X-Men ‘97. If the creative teams stick to what made Season 1 work, character-first drama, action with real consequences, and a reverence for the source material, fans should be in for a wild, emotional ride.

Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is officially landing on Disney+ in summer 2026, giving fans a reason to dust off those classic X-Men theme tracks and settle in for another wild ride. Marvel Animation head Brad Winderbaum confirmed the release, and while it’s later than some expected, the show’s meticulous production promises it’ll be worth the wait. With season 3 already greenlit, it’s clear Disney and Marvel are committed to building a long-term mutant saga.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Brad Winderbaum, who leads Marvel's TV and animation, talked about how the show will stay consistent with the creative team as he said,

"It's actually the entire creative team. Same director, same producers, same cast, many of the same writers, and it's standing on the shoulders of giants. One thing that makes X-Men '97 work so well is that everybody's rowing in exactly the same direction. Everyone that works on the show knows that original series inside and out. And we work very closely with Eric and Julia Lewald and Larry Houston [creators of X-Men: The Animated Series]. "

The plot picks up where season 1 left off, and things get intense fast. After the UN’s “Magneto Protocol” backfires, Asteroid M threatens Earth, but Professor X manages to stabilize Magneto and save the day. The fallout, however, catapults Rogue, Storm, Logan, Beast, Nightcrawler, and Magneto back to Egypt circa 3000 BC. Jean and Scott are hurled even further into the future, landing in 3960 AD alongside a teenaged pre-Cable Nathan and Mother Askani, who is revealed in the comics as Rachel Summers.

X-Men ‘97 Season 2 is set to premiere in mid-2026. More details about the third season are awaited for now.
