Netflix is all set to premiere Next Gen Chef on September 17, 2025. The culinary competition is set in the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) and features celebrity chefs and 21 participants. With eight episodes, fans will witness an iconic competition in a reality show-style format.
Netflix describes the culinary show as:
"Inside the world's most prestigious culinary school, 21 of America's hottest young chefs, under the age of 30, compete in a one-of-a-kind competition. The Culinary Institute of America has set a rigorous gauntlet of tests to find who is worthy of being crowned the leading chef of the next generation."
The Next Gen Chef trailer opens with participants referred to as the "best young chefs" of America. As they arrive at the Culinary Institute of America, which is referred to as the "Harvard" of culinary schools. Another one referred to it as "like Hogwarts" for cooking.
The competition is hosted by former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, who is also part of the Culpo restaurateur family and co-owns three restaurants. She further describes the culinary show as:
"Inside real CIA kitchens, they will be put through a series of gruelling tests to earn half a million dollars. It's a chance to find a chef who defines their generation."
One of the participants mentioned she had worked at 11 Michelin-star restaurants. Another one noted that it was not enough to be "pretty good."
In their confession, another contestant shared:
"If you're looking for a new Anthony Bourdain, I am available."
Another one noted that if they were afraid to "lead," then they would be afraid to be a "chef."
"Some of the biggest names in the culinary world are going to very quickly weed out people who will not survive," the host continued.
The Next Gen Chef trailer showed a tasting featuring multiple judges. A guest judge mentioned the dish she tasted was "disgusting." Another judge noted the dish they had tasted was an "incredibly mature dish" for someone "so young" as the participants.
Additionally, the trailer also featured some arguments among the participants while in the kitchen. The trailer ended with the host stating how intense the competition would be:
"It's more than a competition. It's a chance to make their name as the Next Gen Chef," noted Olivia Culpo.
