Nice to Not Meet You Episode 9 recap: Hyun-Jun tries to impress Jeong-sin

In the Nice to Not Meet You episode 9, Hyun-Jun realises that all this time he was chatting with Jeong-sin on the onion app. The anonymous fan is the same woman who he believed always disliked him in real life. He eventually grows emotionally attached to her and sends her some limited edition gifts while reenacting some scenes from his drama. This comes as a turning point in their relationship and sets the emotional foundation for every incident that unfolds in the story.

What happened in Nice to Not Meet You episode 9?

Episode 9 shows Hyun-Jun learns about the girl he has been chatting with on the app. Hyun-Jun, pretending to be Byung-gi, goes on a date with Jeong-sin. He eventually realises that this girl is the one who actually hates him in real life. It comes as a shock to him that someone who doesn't like him in real life could also be his hardcore fan.

Meanwhile, Byung-gi invents a fake story to convince Jeong-sin that her crush can’t return her feelings, unintentionally wounding her deeply. The date ends in rejection, leaving Jeong-sin heartbroken. Jeong-sin is sad at work, and her sadness is evident on her face. Jae-hyung, at the time, steps in to confront her and offers her an umbrella when she gets stuck in the rain. This small gesture means a lot to Jeong-sin that Jae-hyung doesn't realise.

The episode then features an open interview with a popular actor, and while other reporters ask more gossip to defame the actor, Jeong-sin asks thoughtful and intelligent questions. Impressed by this, the actor then reaches out to her personally, thanking her for the kind of professionalism she showed. The actor also promised that she will get his first interview when his movie is released.

How does episode 9 of Nice to Not Meet You end?

Hyun Jun, on the other hand, injured himself while performing a stunt action, pushing his body far beyond his capacity. Moreover, his younger brother joins the cast of the show, which Hyun-Jun never wanted.

Seeing his brother enter the entertainment world completely rattled him and triggered frustration and helplessness. Back of his mind is also that online conversation he had with Jeong-sin, and suspects that she may be a stand-in for someone else.

Hyun Jun then decides to meet her and her editor in person to test whether she is truly his mysterious fan. He also tests by gifting her rare items and even reenacts scenes from his other dramas. Her reaction was authentic, and it convinced Hyun-jun.

This is when Hyun-Jun softens towards her and begins to treat her warmly. Rumours spread that Hyun-Jun is dating Se-na, and that is when he panics and denies the very bond. He attempts to restart their chat on the Onion app, but Jeong-sin holds her boundary. The girl tells him that she is coming out of a heartbreak and wants them to be friends.

Towards the end of the episode of Nice to Not Meet You, Jae-hyung offers Jeong-sin a ride after learning she was recently rejected by the man she had feelings for. What follows is an unexpectedly hilarious moment between them, bringing the episode to a light-hearted close while hinting at a developing bond.
