A new live-action Spider-Man series starring Nicolas Cage is on the way. Spider-Noir is an upcoming series created by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot for MGM+. It’s based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir and takes place in an alternate 1930s New York City. This version follows an aging private investigator and superhero trying to face the ghosts of his past.

While most details about the show have been kept under wraps, Nicolas Cage, in a recent interview with ScreenRant, has addressed his involvement in the series without giving away too much.

Nicolas Cage will be playing Spider-Man Noir, making this his first time playing the character in live action. Cage is reprising his role after he voiced a version of Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). His deep and detective-style voice made him a great fit for the role, and now that he steps fully into the trench coat for the live-action version, viewers will be seeing a new kind of Spider-Man than they are accustomed to.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Nicolas Cage revealed how tightly the studio is guarding the details of the show. He said,

“They have, and I'm sorry for this answer [chuckles], but the studio has literally put like a five-inch acrylic cone of silence glass around me, and they won't let me say a word about it, which is really weird. But that's where they're at, they're keeping it so close to the vest.”

Nicolas Cage’s comments show how seriously the studio is guarding the project. The secrecy could hint at surprises or cameos, new characters, or even crossovers within the Spider-Man universe.

The series was first revealed to be in development in February 2023, with Uziel involved early on, and Lightfoot joined later that year in December. Nicolas Cage’s casting was confirmed in May 2024, when the series was ordered under the title Noir. It was officially renamed Spider-Noir in July 2024.

Filming took place in Los Angeles from August 2024 to March 2025. The show was filmed entirely in black and white to stay true to the noir look and feel. Sony Pictures Television produces the show along with Lord Miller Productions, Pascal Pictures, and Amazon MGM Studios. It will be part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and will include eight episodes.

Other than Nicolas Cage, the cast also features Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Li Jun Li, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Karen Rodriguez. With a strong creative team, unique style, and top-notch secrecy, which seems to be part of a big marketing strategy, Spider-Noir is shaping up to be one of the most interesting Spider-Man stories yet.

The series will first premiere on MGM+’s linear channel later this year or next year and then release globally on Prime Video.
