Episode 2 of Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 picks up right where we left off, full of mystery, emotion, and a bit of chaos. This episode gives us a deeper look into the characters' broken pasts, especially Masha, Brian, and Imogen. Relationships get messy, secrets begin to spill, and healing seems more confusing than ever.
We start with a look into Masha’s past. After the tragic death of her daughter, Tatiana, Masha is heartbroken and completely lost. She arrives at a place called Zabravald, overwhelmed with pain. It's here that she begins experimenting with psychedelic therapy to heal from her trauma.
Jumping back to the current timeline, Masha is sticking to her unusual methods at the wellness retreat. She says Helena inspired her to keep going with this risky kind of therapy. Clearly, she’s ready to push her limits, and everyone else’s too.
There’s something strange going on with Brian’s suitcase. Masha hides it on purpose, not to be mean, but to make Brian open up emotionally. It's a risky move, but it seems to work.
Brian’s background revealed
So, who is Brian? He’s not just a guest. He’s actually the performer behind a kids’ TV show called Crab Apple Clubhouse. The suitcase he’s missing? It holds one of his puppets, an essential piece of his work and emotional history. Interestingly, the show was a favorite of Masha’s daughter, Tatiana.
Later, Brian actually sees the puppet talking to him. Yep, that’s a hallucination. Looks like he’s already been given a dose of psychedelics, maybe without even realizing it.
Meanwhile, Imagigen tries to sneak out of Peter’s bed, but fails. It seems like she has commitment issues, yet Peter’s charm keeps her coming back. It's a messy situation, and it’s clearly weighing on her.
At breakfast, Martin says the group will go on a foraging trip. When Peter jokes about drugs, it stirs up some anger and anxiety in the group. People start sharing their struggles, but not everyone is ready to face the truth.
Tina plays the piano, and Victoria is clearly moved. But Victoria has retired and doesn't want to dig into her past. Tina, on the other hand, is angry that she’s been forced into performing here. She didn’t sign up for this therapy gig.
For the foraging trip, Brian is unexpectedly chosen to lead. Imagigen is shocked, and not in a good way. She tells the group that Brian was "canceled" before because he lost his temper on set. But the full story isn't told just yet.
All this drama makes Martin question Masha's real reasons for organizing this retreat. She insists everything will start once David arrives. She believes the group needs to be perfectly balanced before real therapy can begin.
While hiking, Brian talks to Wolfie about Tina’s struggles. Meanwhile, Tina opens up to Agnes. Tina lost her passion for music, and Agnes is trying to find peace through religion. They’re both looking for something they’ve lost.
A sudden snowstorm hits, forcing the group to head back to the villa. When they return, a new guest, David, finally shows up. But he stays out of sight for now.
Cooking time and awkward vibes
Brian gets picked to help cook dinner, but the atmosphere is tense. Imogen clearly isn’t happy about it and sighs heavily. Something’s definitely building up.
Haunted by his puppet again, Brian snaps at Imagigen during dinner. This moment is important, it brings up old wounds and trauma from both of them.
Turns out, Brian lost everything after a huge outburst on set. He yelled, cursed, and flipped a table, and it all got caught on camera. After that, people said he wasn’t fit to work with kids anymore. His whole show was canceled.
Here’s the twist: Imogen used to be obsessed with Brian’s show. After her dad died, she clung to the show as a way to cope. That’s why she’s still emotionally tied to it, and why Brian’s fall hit her hard.
Later, Tina tells Brian she once appeared on his show. She said she wanted to be an astronaut, but her parents didn’t like that. They pushed her into music instead. Maybe that’s why she’s lost her passion, it was never truly hers.
The episode ends with Masha finally meeting David. She tells him he’s a key part of this group, then kisses him. Clearly, there’s a deep history and some unresolved feelings.
Episode 2 dives deep into the emotional scars of each character. From childhood trauma to career-ending meltdowns, everyone is carrying baggage. Masha’s psychedelic methods continue to raise eyebrows, but we’re starting to see why each person is here. The emotional weight of this episode lays the foundation for bigger reveals to come.
