Doctors make the worst patients, or at least the ones on The Pitt do. The Season 1 ending set up Noah Wyle's Robby in a precarious position, forcing him to face his mental health struggles and accept that he needs help. Robby is dangerously close to the edge of the ledge, both metaphorically and physically, by the end of the season.
In a recent conversation with TVInsider, Wyle talked about the second season and some things it has in store for the audience. The first season majorly focused on Robby's emotional journey and events during the 15-hour-long shift. He revealed that the first season was, in a way, a Trojan horse disguised as Robby's story to introduce these characters to the audience.
The second season, however, will take a deeper look at all of the characters and not just Robby. This is not to say that there is nothing in store for Robby, as he has a lot of major life decisions and experiences waiting for him with the second season, which, according to reports, might release at the same time that the first season premiered last year.
Read on to find out what Wyle revealed about Robby's journey in the second season of The Pitt.
Robby's emotional state after The Pitt Season 1 ending

The Pitt Season 1 was an especially tolling shift for Wyle's Robby, as he's forced to take care of his stepson's girlfriend, who sustained injuries after a shootout at a music festival. Robby is unable to save her life and has a breakdown as a lot of things that he'd kept buried inside him force their way to the surface after the personal tragedy of Leah's death.
By the end of the season, we see Robby standing on the edge of the roof, right where he started the shift, but this time, he's much closer to the edge. He's on the edge literally and metaphorically as well, because his breakdown has forced the realization on him that he needs to get help. He's confronted with the reality of his emotional burdens, as explained by Wyle:
"This is a guy that can no longer look at himself in the mirror and admit that he doesn’t have a problem."
Noah Wyle reveals his character's future in The Pitt Season 2

Wyle went on to reveal that even though Robby is forced into this realization, it doesn't necessarily mean that he's going to dedicate all his energy towards getting the help he needs, or even try and accept the help he's getting. The second season of The Pitt, according to Wyle, will focus on how Robby handles himself:
"But part of that is being realistic with where he would be 10 months later. He’d probably tried a therapist or two. He probably shot them down, intellectually sparred with them, tried to find fault with their methodology, has come up with his own plan that he thinks will work just fine to keep everybody at bay, demonstrated from the leadership standpoint that he’s going through the motions of using the resources available so that he can model that for the people under him and make sure that they do. But all of it is, what is he really letting in? What is really taking root?"
It appears that Robby has a tough journey in The Pitt Season 2, and Wyle also teased that he has a big life-altering decision waiting for him this season as well.
Wyle concluded his information about Robby in the second season by adding that even though there's a tough road in front of him, he has smiled more in the first few episodes than he did for the entirety of Season 1.
However, only time will tell if this smile is real or a mask to keep his well-wishers at bay.
