The Boys Season 5 might still be far from a release date, but the anticipation for Homelander's downfall is real. The final season of Amazon Prime Video's superhero series is still underway and will likely be released in 2026.
The Season 4 finale saw Homelander assuming full control over the US Government, with Butcher and his vigilantes locked behind bars. With Homelander in full power, the Supes are more dangerous than ever, and the antagonists will desperately aim for more power in the final season.
Homelander and Deep End aimed at eliminating all Vought employees who had information on The Seven, which prompted Colby Minifie’s Ashley Barrett to inject herself with Compound V. With her monstrous transformation, she should be the one to take down Homelander and end his tyrannical rule.

Ashley Barrett's transformation might have a monumental role in The Boys Season 5
With The Boys Season 5 approaching, anticipation is building for how the terror reign of Homelander will come to its satisfying conclusion. With almost all the vigilante team, including Butcher, behind bars, the stakes are already high.
However, the Season 4 finale gave a ray of hope to Ashley Barrett, the Vought CEO, as she might aid the vigilante team in defeating Homelander. While Barrett is far from a protagonist as she has had conflicting loyalties throughout the show but her shocking transformation felt like a set up for The Boys Season 5.
In the Season 4 finale, as Homelander was gearing up to kill Vought employees who have information on the Sevens, Deep End reminds him that Ashley should also be killed because she has access to most information about the Supes.
However, Ashley overhears this information and, in a bid to save herself from Homelander's wrath, goes to his apartment. She discovers a hidden stash of Compound V and, in a shocking move, injects herself with it.
The Boys Season 4 finale saw the onset of her monstrous transformation as she falls to the ground, her wig falling off, and she screams in pain as her scalp begins to ripple. This painful and monstrous transformation was one of the highlights of the finale and might be monumental in taking down Homelander in The Boys Season 5.
Ashley Barrett deserves to take down Homelander in The Boys Season 5
While Ashley Barrett is a self-promoting liar who changes loyalties based on her self-interest, it's high time she breaks free of Homelander's tyranny and revolts against the Seven.
Not only has Homelander belittled and taunted her throughout, but he has also used her position to promote his psychopathic ideals. While Ashley has quietly defied Homelander's wishes and committed acts of rebellion against him, it's high time she proves her prowess and defeats him for real.
In addition, Homelander and Deep End's decision to kill Ashley should tip her off enough to stand against them in The Boys Season 5. While her newfound superpowers might still not be enough to go against Homelander, she will likely help Butcher and his team of vigilantes fight against Homelander.
With limited characters present to take down the antagonist, Ashley might prove monumental and pave the way for his downfall, earning justice for every cruelty inflicted on her by the Seven.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Minifie even teased The Boys Season 5 finale:
''I just read the finale last night. It's an extremely satisfying finale. That's what I will say. It's extremely satisfying. I was getting emotional reading it...''
While the actress was tight-lipped about her character, Ashley helping Butcher and the vigilantes take down Homelander will surely be a satisfying end for the show.
