Not Mathew Perry, but this Two and a Half Men star could have played Chandler in Friends (until a logistical issue ruined his audition)

It's nearly impossible to think of anybody but Mathew Perry as Chandler Bing in NBC's popular sitcom Friends. The late actor Mathew Perry didn't just play Chandler Bing; he was Chandler with every smirk, shrug, and perfectly mistimed joke. His perfect blend of sarcasm, vulnerability, and comic timing will remain iconic forever.

But did you know several actors auditioned for this iconic role, including Craig Bierko, Jon Favreau, and most notably the Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer? Bierko and Favreau turned down the role for other projects. Cryer auditioned for Friends in London, but apparently, his tape never made it to the Los Angeles producers.

Here's what we know about it

In a 2015 episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jon Cryer revealed how he missed out on a chance of playing Chandler Bing due to a silly technical mishap- his audition tape got stuck in customs. He told how he was in London when he received a late-night call from Marta Kauffman, the executive producer of the sitcom, who asked him to audition for Chandler Bing's role in the script called 'Six of One' (later renamed to Friends).

"I got a call from Marta Kauffman at 3 AM, and she had this great script called Six of One, and I thought, Oh, this sounds interesting, and she said, well, the part that I want you for is named Chandler Bing."

The Two and a Half Men star continued,

"I had to audition the next morning with the casting director who's in the UK. But she woke me up at 3 so I had to work on the scene from that time until 10 am, so I went it I did my test and she packaged up the tape for me, doing my best Chandler Bing, sent it to Los Angeles, and it got stuck at customs."
