Colin Farrell is riding high on the success of The Penguin, HBO's moody Gotham crime saga that earned him his first-ever Emmy nomination. In a recent interview with Deadline, The Penguin star was asked about whether he had any knowledge about Matt Reeves' The Batman II script. Farrell admitted,
"Not yet. But I'm very close to it. I can't wait. I'm going to have to block out a few hours when that happens and really put the kettle on and put a nice cup of tea on and pay attention."
While DC Studios' co-chief James Gunn has already called Matt Reeves' script for Batman II 'great' during the premiere of Superman. Farell is still waiting to dive in. Sharing his excitement, he continued,
"Matt is an extraordinary writer and a highly intelligent artist. I will imagine that the script will be riveting and incredibly deep and he’s taken he’s time with it and that’s because he’s a perfectionist."

The Penguin bags 24 Emmy nominations in 2025
HBO's The Penguin is flying high. It has stormed the 2025 Primetime Emmy nominations with a record of 24 nods, placing it just behind Watchmen (2019) as one of the most nominated comic book-based series in the history of the Emmys.
In this gritty Gotham-set drama, Colin Farrell plays Oswald Oz Cobb, the crime boss. Farrell has won several accolades for his portrayal of Oz, including SAG, Critics' Choice, and Golden Globes, and now with an Emmy nod in the mix, he's stacking trophies like a true kingpin. Additionally, Cristin Milioti, who plays Sofia Falcone and Deirdre 'O'Connell, has been nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.
Created by Lauren LeFranc and executive produced by Matt Reeves, The Penguin spins out of the 2022 film The Batman, diving deep into the underworld politics of Gotham in the aftermath of Carmine Falcone's fall.
