The Disney+ Marvel series, Wonder Man, received an important update at the Upfront event on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

Marvel revealed that the series revolving around the superhero actor and stuntman will consist of eight episodes. Furthermore, the runtime of every episode was also revealed, with each of them running for nearly half an hour.

While it is worth noting that Marvel Studios did not provide many details about the Wonder Man series, The Hollywood Reporter report provided some insights as to how Marvel was approaching the marketing strategy for both Ironheart and Wonder Man with a "wait and see" approach. If it is popular enough, this show and Ironheart might be renewed for a second season.

It must also be noted that Vision Quest, Ironheart, and Wonder Man will be some of the last Disney+ Marvel series featuring characters from the MCU movies. After that, movies and shows won't cross over that much. Internet scooper Jeff Sneider also seemingly hinted at a similar strategy.

The new release strategy for Wonder Man and other Marvel shows featuring movie characters explained:

As stated before, the Wonder Man series is one of the shows, Marvel is following a performance-based strategy for. The future of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's tenure as Simon Williams in the MCU depends on how well the solo series performs on streaming. In case it manages to pull in the streaming numbers, we might get a second season or a possible appearance in an MCU movie.

It is worth noting that the series might do well, considering the eight episodes of the show have a short run time. It also needs to be mentioned that the show boasts the involvement of Destin Daniel Cretton (2019's Just Mercy and 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Andrew Guest (Community, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, 30 Rock, and Hawkeye). This aspect was addressed by Brad Winderbaum.

What did Brad Winderbaum say?

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, had spoken about Simon Williams' solo Marvel series twice in the past year, with the first one on the Phase Hero: A Film & TV Podcast in November 2024. Winderbaum said this to Brandon Davis:

"You know it’s a two-hander between two amazing characters. There’s this odd couple of Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery and you get a little bit of glimpse of that in the trailer. I don’t wanna go too much into story details, it’s very fun to see people speculating about what the plot will be. That is part of the fun of it."
"If you’re a fan of West Coast Avengers and know a little bit about Simon Williams you’re going to be… I mean, I hope if you’re anything like me, you’re going to be very excited to see how much homage to the source material there is. It really is a love letter to Hollywood in a lot of ways."

After this, the Marvel executive further hyped up the show during a Collider interview published in February 2025:

"Wonder Man is eight episodes. It's a very new flavor for Marvel. It's straight from the minds of Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. Honestly, it is one of my favorite things ever. I think it's the best show no one's ever seen, and I’m very excited to see the audience reaction to it. I think it's a love letter to what we do as filmmakers. It's a love letter to acting as a profession, and it's a very sincere, beautiful show."

These comments have fans hoping that the series is as good as Winderbaum hyped it up to be.

MCU's Wonder Man will begin streaming on Disney+ from December 2025.
