Netflix Spain’s drama Olympo, which was written and created by Jan Matheu, Laia Foguet, and Ibai Abad, will not be returning for a second season. Despite a promising launch, the young adult sports drama has now been officially cancelled.
Released on June 20, 2025, the series was emerging as one of the more potent titles among Netflix Spain’s bigger bets of the year. The show unfolds in the Pyrenean High Performance Center, where Spain’s top athletes train under tough psychological and physical hurdles.
Olympo is now officially cancelled after its debut season run
Rumors about the show’s future trajectory surfaced in mid-December. The first hint came when a Spanish social media account, Previously Serie, reported that the cast were not contacted six months after release and had already committed to other projects.
This hint has now materialized with the cancellation news, along with additional coverage from TuSubtitulo, confirming the cancellation.
The cancellation comes as a surprise when viewed purely through performance metrics. Olympo remained a steady name in Netflix’s global Top 10 for five straight weeks, pulling in 113.3 million viewing hours. It drew around 17.7 million completed views.

Olympo also charted the daily Top 10 lists of 78 countries and remained in Spain’s daily TV Top 10 for more than 36 days. Some titles with similar performance have earned renewal.
However, renewals do not depend on viewership metrics alone. There are several factors that go into a decision, including completion rates, cost-to-return ratios, and long-term engagement. Reviews for Olympo were mixed, and while its audience was broad, it may not have been deep enough.
Direction duties for the show were shared by Ibai Abad, Daniel Barone, Ana Vázquez, and Marçal Forés. Visually, the show carried a cold, competitive appeal with elaborate athletic settings.
Olympo was hailed by fans for its thematic portrayal of rivalry and moral compromise, asking a blunt but important question: how far can you go to win?
At the heart of the story was Amaia Olaberria, the talented captain of the national synchronized swimming team. Clara Galle plays the character with charm. Amaia is marked by a rare sense of discipline and dedication.
But her motivation goes for a toss when her closest friend and teammate, Núria, begins to outperform her. As records falter, bodies are pushed beyond safe limits to achieve targets.
Amaia begins to suspect that not everyone’s success is natural. The series provided a sustained mystery and built slowly on its strong thematic core.
The ensemble cast includes María Romanillos, Najwa Khliwa, Juan Perales, Nuno Gallego, Martí Cordero, Andy Duato, Nira Osahia, and Agustín Della Corte in key roles.
Earlier in the launch phase, the creators hinted at future seasons, and one outlet even reported a fast renewal; however, Netflix had not made any official comments on the renewal or the possibility thereof.
For the Netflix title, the result is a one-season story for now. If you wish to watch Season 1, you can stream it on Netflix.
