The documentary comes to the screen just as the accused has finally been charged. On July 2, 2025, Bryan Kohberger admitted to murdering the students in 2022. Kohberger, who was charged with the murder in January 2023, was a criminology PhD student at Washington State University.

Kohberger was charged with four counts of first-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. The plea deal means he will not face death penalty. The news was received with mixed response from the families of the victims. Kohberger’s motive behind the murder still remains unclear.
