Netflix set to begin production for One Piece Season 3 under a new code name
Netflix officially announced the Season 3 renewal for One Piece ahead of a 2026 release for Season 2 during the annual celebration in Tokyo. Since then, fans have been looking forward to production updates, as filming was expected to begin soon.
According to the latest reports, production for Season 3 is set to begin later this year, just before Thanksgiving.
Season 1 of the Netflix show was operated under the codename 'Project Panda' in an effort to prevent the public from prying. A similar tactic was adopted for the second season under the codename 'Project Renaissance.' Now, we're at the third adventure, and with it, we have a brand new code name - 'Project Arcadia.'
The current shooting schedule is set for over 207 days, and it is set in Cape Town, South Africa. South Africa has been the shooting destination for Netflix's live-action fantasy adventure series, so there's no reason for that to change anytime soon. The production listings have revealed that production will reportedly begin on November 24, 2025, and span until June 19, 2026, if not longer. This production schedule breaks down any chances of One Piece Season 3 releasing in 2026. It is more than clear that Season 3 will not premiere until 2027.
Netflix also revealed in the Season 3 renewal announcement that Ian Stokes is set to join Joe Tracz as writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer. This does mean that Matt Owens has stepped down after the second season of the live-action adventure series.

Additionally, most of the lead actors, such as Iñaki Godoy (Luffy), Mackenyu (Roronoa), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero (Usopp), and Taz Skylar (Sanji), are most likely to return for the bold and unforeseen adventures of the Straw Hats crew. Apart from the lead actors, there's no news about cast additions as of now.
Finally, considering the Season 2 plot where the Straw Hats crew is setting their sails for the Grand Line, it can be assumed that Season 3 might take the crew to Alabasta, Skypiea, and Jaya next. This, however, is purely guesswork at this point, since no concrete information has been released about One Piece Season 3 as of now.
