Prime Video’s Reacher, which premiered in February 2022, became a successful adaptation of Lee Child’s book series. With the three seasons that aired until now, we saw Reacher get into complex and life-threatening situations and come back alive out of those with a tough fight.
However, it was season 1 of the series that made the mark and helped it become one of the superhit Prime Video shows. In season 1, after being arrested on suspicion of murder, Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) then begins solving a deeper corruption scheme involving counterfeiting money in Margrave with Malcolm Goodwin’s Finlay and Willa Fitzgerald’s Roscoe.
Reacher has many incredible fight scenes in season 1, from the bathroom fight scene to the fight sequence in Hubble’s house. But one of the best fight sequences of season 1 has to be Jack’s brawl with a hitman (Maxime Savara) in an abandoned alley in New York City. The scene where Jack is wearing a suit, rather than his casual wear, ends up using his tie to kill the hitman.
More on this in our story.
Reacher killing a hitman in a New York stairwell was one of his best fights in season 1
In season 1, while looking for his brother, Joe’s murderer, Jack began unraveling a shocking corruption scheme in the rural town of Margave in Georgia. Moreover, as he started getting close to the culprits and murderers, he had to face many clashes that aimed at stopping him forever.
One of those attempts happened in episode 6, titled Papier, where Jack went to New York City, in a formal suit, the one thing that he hates the most, to meet an informant to know more about everything bad going on in Margrave.
While he is at it, he realizes that he is being followed by someone and quickly changes his direction and makes the hitman follow him to an abandoned alleyway and surprises the hitman by drawing the first punch to his face. But the hitman came prepared and fought by defending himself and then attacking Reacher with a knife, slicing him a little in his abdomen.
But, our jacked up hero isn’t bothered by the blood that is seeping through the cut and staining his white shirt, and finds an abandoned bicycle wheel and blocks the hitman’s hand with it and breaks his fingers, showing how creative Jack can get in this life and death situation. This helps him gain the upper hand, and the breaking of bones continues with a hip-hop beat in the background.
Lastly, he kills the hitman by choking him with his tie, another creative way where he utilizes a fairly harmless piece of cloth, and jumps over the stairwell, killing him instantly. While Spirit in the Sky begins playing in the background, Jack walks away, panting after the brutal brawl.
This one scene displayed how the ex-cop, even with restraints, in this case the formal suit and not carrying any weapon, can win against all odds with just his quick thinking, and of course, his sheer physical strength.
More about Reacher
Most of the fight sequences in season 1 had no guns involved, and we were fortunate enough to experience the gritty and robust fight sequences. Whether the Reacher is fighting a hitman in an alleyway, in a house, or a small prison cell, his quick wit allows him to think on his feet and give a hard time to his enemies.
While the third season of the Prime Video series is more heavy on the guns, season 1 will always remain one of the best seasons for combats that place Jack Reacher among the best fighters.
All three seasons of Reacher are available to stream on Prime Video
