Alan Harper’s life has not been easy after his divorce from Judith in Two and a Half Men. It is not just because of how he still had remnant feelings for her, but also because of something he had no control over. After Alan and Judith filed for divorce, Charlie’s activities created massive trouble for Alan.

Judith had a lawyer, Laura, during the divorce process. Now, Charlie, being Charlie, slept wth the Lawyer and then broke her heart, which caused the lawyer to make Alan pay a hefty amount of $3,875 monthly alimony to Judith after their divorce.

The monthly alimony that Alan had to pay took a toll on him economically. So, when Judith finally gets married to Jake’s pediatrician, Dr. Herb Melnick, he finally escaped from the restraint of paying alimony to his ex-wife. He was indeed truly enjoying himself after Judith got married. The alimony was a constant nagging drain on his already meager income.

Every dollar he earned mattered to him. Hence, giving thousands of dollars to his ex-wife, to whom he already has to pay child support, was truly a difficult thing for Alan. In the end, when Judith discloses the news about her marriage, it is an emotional closure for Alan as well.

The payment was also an indication of his past struggles, along with being a reminder of his failures. Though the amount might not be a huge one for his brother, for him, it made a huge difference.

Judith and Alan’s relationship has always been one filled with complications. In Two and a Half Men, Judith explained the reason for her divorce from Alan. She mentioned that she disliked Alan.

Though initially her reason for divorce was her sexuality, later she herself revealed her true reason. Alan and Judith’s relationship in Two and a Half Men can be described as a masterclass of modern dysfunction.

Even after the divorce, their relationship never really got a clean ending. However, for the viewers of Two and a Half Men, it was always a constant source of humor and heart.

For most couples, divorce becomes the definitive end of the relationship. However, it was not the case for Judith and Alan in the series. It cannot be denied that Jake’s presence also added to this connection. The alimony that Judith received monthly became her source of luxury. He spent the money on herself in an extravagant manner. While Judith found love in Herb, Alan’s life continued to get more and more complicated.

Marin Hinkle truly does a commendable job in bringing out Judith’s complex nature. Though she is quite independent, she does not have a job or a career path. She wants a better life for herself, which is very much prevalent in the way she behaves, but she does not do anything to make things better for herself.

She might despise Alan, but she has no issue using the money Alan gives her, and also bickers about how little the amount is. On the other hand, Alan is also not quite different than her. Alan also uses his brother’s money and even tries to cheat his own brother. Alan and Judith’s relationship was a constant cycle of frustration and manipulation.
