The return of Only Murders in the Building for Season 5 on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, has been formally confirmed by Hulu. The first three episodes of the upcoming season will be released all at once, and weekly installments will then air every Tuesday until the October 28 finale. The exploits of Charles, Oliver, and Mabel as they investigate another murder in (and outside of) the Arconia continue in the popular comedy-mystery series.

The characters of Oliver Putnam, Mabel Mora, and Charles-Haden Savage are played again by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. Michael Recurring roles will be played by Meryl Streep (Loretta), Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Detective Williams), and Cyril Creighton (Howard) and in addition to Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, Keegan-Michael Key, Logan Lerman, and others in roles that have not yet been revealed, Téa Leoni, who made her debut in the Season 4 finale, also joins the group.

Additionally, Nathan Lane will reprise his role as Teddy Dimas, which he hasn't played since Only Murders in the Building Season 2.

Only Murders in the Building Season 4 ending

The end of season four was heartbreaking, and after a long investigation, it was found that Charles' best friend and stunt double, Sazz Pataki, was murdered by Rex Bailey, also known as Marshall Pope.

Rex stole Sazz's script and passed it off as his own in an attempt to get into Hollywood. The situation deteriorated when he abducted Mabel, but Charles and Oliver were able to step in just in time. Jan (Amy Ryan), Charles' former love interest and Season 1 antagonist, who made an unexpected but crucial comeback, tragically shot Rex when everything seemed hopeless.

However, the finale did not end there. In the final seconds, the three discovered Lester, the adored Arconia doorman, dead in a fountain outside the building. His death sets off the next mystery, which will stretch over into Season 5 and according to Hulu, this new case will take Charles, Oliver, and Mabel into unfamiliar territory, exploring not only the Arconia, but also the darker corners of New York City itself.

As it examines the difference between ancient and modern New York, Only Murders in the Building Season 5 is anticipated to blend humor, suspense, and social critique.

In addition to addressing current local issues, the season will further explore the lives of influential foreigners and long-term residents of Arconia, according to co-creator John Hoffman, and the program is expected to maintain its cherished blend of humor, emotion, and whodunit, with a solid cast returning and a fresh mystery to solve.
