Marlyne Barrett has been playing ER nurse Maggie Lockwood since the first season of Chicago Med, which was released on 17th November 2015. But as Deadline reports, Marlyne Barrett is leaving her role after having played it for a decade.

However, the leave is not permanent, and we might see her in a future season. The reason behind Barrett's leave hasn't been made public, as she has said it is due to personal reasons. When the show comes back for its eleventh season on 1st October 2025, only two of its original cast members, S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin and Oliver Platt as Daniel Charles, will be returning, along with the rest of the cast, which has been added on throughout the years.

Created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, Chicago Med is the third series of the Chicago Franchise, focusing on the Emergency Department of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and its staff. While Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. focus on the fire and police departments and their first responders, the third series follows the daily challenges faced by the doctors and nurses at the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.

Maggie Lockwood is a dedicated ER nurse at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, known for her loyalty and no-nonsense leadership. Raised by a midwife mother, she grew up in a medical setting, which shaped her sense of duty and compassion. At sixteen, she gave up her daughter, Vanessa Taylor, for adoption, a choice she later regretted, but it showed her resilience.

Maggie is close to her sister Denise and her niece. She was married to Ben Campbell in the past, but presently, her biggest responsibility is her patients. With her leaving the show, it is unknown how the writers will fill the gap of her absence. She has been a driving force, both for her patients and colleagues, who takes charge and is someone people rely on. While Barrett is unable to return for season eleven, Nick Gehlfuss, who played Dr. Will Halstead for the first eight seasons, will be reprising his role in season eleven in a guest role.

The cast members returning for the show's eleventh season are Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, Jessy Schram as Dr. Hannah Asher, Luke Mitchell as Dr. Mitchell Ripley, Steven Weber as Dr. Dean Archer, Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles, Sarah Ramos as Dr. Caitlin Lenox, and Darren Barnet as Dr. John Frost.

The show is executive-produced by Dick Wolf, Diane Frolov, Andrew Schneider, Michael Waxman, Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Danielle Gelber, Arthur W. Forney, and Peter Jankowski. Chicago Med is produced by Charles S. Carroll, Jeffrey Drayer, David Weinstein, Simran Baidwan, Will Pascoe, and Safura Favavi, while the showrunners are Andrew Schneider, Andrew Dettmann, and Diane Frolov. The production companies involved in making the show are Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.

Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. will all release their 2025-26 seasons on 1st October 2025 at 8 pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm ET, respectively.
