The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is poised to be the biggest event highlighting the end of the year. The final season of Stranger Things will conclusively bring the tale of Hawkins to an end in three volumes, with the first volume releasing on Wednesday, November 26, the second volume dropping on Thursday, December 15, and the third volume finally being made available for streaming on December 25.

As the hour mark of a remarkable nine-year run for Stranger Things edges nearer, David Harbour recently expressed relief at finally being able to hang up his Hopper boots now that his longest-running television stint nears its end.

Here's everything that you need to know.

David Harbour is relieved that Stranger Things is coming to an end

For such a popular and long-running show as Stranger Things, it is only natural that important character actors must be wholeheartedly committed to their roles for an extended period. David Harbour's Hopper has been a staple of the show ever since the debut season premiere back in June 2016.

Over the successive seasons, Hopper's contribution to the storyline has only increased, and this has necessitated Harbour to keep the character alive within himself for a prolonged period. Speaking with Scarlett Johansson for Interview Magazine, Harbour recently expressed relief that the Netflix show is finally coming to an end:

"When I started I loved it so much. Buddies of mine who’d done TV shows for many years said, “By season three or four you’ll be running.” And I was like, “Never! I love all these guys so much.” And then you get to a certain point where you’re like, “How much more story is there?” You’re having to play a lot of the same beat, and there’s a feeling where you’re like, “I want to take a risk. I want to do something that people haven’t seen me do before.” So yeah, after 10 years, it’s like, “Okay.”

He further added:

"There’d be certain seasons where you feel like, “I’m going to go in this different direction.” But as you say, a piece of your psyche is occupied with this group of people and this storyline. I don’t paint my nails, but I get that idea of “I can’t get a haircut” or “I can’t shave this freaking mustache.”

David Harbour churned out other projects in between Stranger Things

While aiding the children in the fight against Vecna and the sinister forces from the Upside Down, Harbour also took up other projects. He was quite popularly seen as the Red Guardian across multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and also appeared as Jack Salter in the 2023 film Gran Tourismo.

Now that his stint on Stranger Things is concluding, this would mean that he would be available to take up new projects that would push his acting boundaries. He has been confirmed to be a part of the upcoming Violent Night 2 and will also be voicing Eric Frankenstein on the DC Universe show Creature Commandos.
