Paramount+ has officially renewed Lioness for a third season. The announcement arrives nearly a year after the release of Season 2 in October 2024. Reports had previously circulated about a continuation, but the streamer had not issued confirmation until now. The decision secures the drama as part of Paramount+’s ongoing slate.

The timing felt different this time. While Taylor Sheridan’s productions often move quickly from one season to the next, the lack of news created a pause that raised questions. With the renewal now confirmed, the series is once again set to move forward as part of the platform’s lineup.

The cast lineup

The series features a cast anchored by Zoe Saldaña, who plays Joe. Nicole Kidman also returns as Kaitlyn, and Morgan Freeman remains attached to the series. Other names include Laysla De Oliveira, Michael Kelly, and Genesis Rodriguez.

The ensemble extends further with Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill, and Hannah Love Lanier. All these actors appeared in season 2 and are expected to continue in the new one. Their presence has helped the show maintain visibility across different audiences, especially with Kidman and Saldaña also serving as executive producers.

The story so far

The second season pushed the CIA’s operations closer to home. Joe (Saldaña), Kaitlyn (Kidman), and Byron (Michael Kelly) recruited a new Lioness operative to infiltrate a previously unknown threat.

The official description also noted how rising pressure forced Joe to confront the sacrifices tied to her role as head of the Lioness program. Those elements shaped the season’s arc and established the foundation for the continuation into Season 3.

Taylor Sheridan’s wider slate

Lioness is one of several series created by Taylor Sheridan for Paramount. His projects cover a broad range of themes and timelines. In 2025, Mayor of Kingstown will return with its fourth season in October. Landman is set for its second season in November.

September already saw the premiere of Tulsa King Season 3. The Yellowstone franchise remains active as well, with The Madison still awaiting release and 1944 in development as a prequel. Placed among these projects, the show continues as part of Sheridan’s active portfolio with Paramount+.

Production and creative team behind Lioness

The drama is produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, with Paramount Global Content Distribution handling worldwide rollout.

Executive producers include Taylor Sheridan, David C. Glasser, Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox. This team has been attached since the show’s debut and continues to oversee its development.

Release plans

There is still no release date for Season 3. Nothing official has been put out, only the renewal itself, which at least confirms more episodes are on the way.

The gap between the first two seasons has already proved how schedules can change, take longer, and shift around. That pattern might repeat. What holds for now is just one detail: Lioness will return. When no one knows yet. Until then, both earlier seasons stay on Paramount+, easy to revisit or discover for the first time while waiting for what comes next.

The role of the series inside Paramount+

Since its debut in July 2023, the series has established itself as part of Paramount+’s drama portfolio. The second season expanded the story in October 2024, reinforcing its blend of espionage and personal conflict. That balance has become the core of the show’s appeal.

The new renewal points to continuity of this approach. With the lead actors still attached and the production team in place, the format remains stable. Within Sheridan’s active catalog, Lioness keeps its role as one of the titles moving forward.

Conclusion

The confirmation of Season 3 closes months of speculation. Starring Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman, and produced under Taylor Sheridan’s leadership, the series remains part of Paramount+’s collection of original dramas.

Although no premiere date has been set, the drama will return alongside other Sheridan productions, including Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, and Landman. The decision ensures that Lioness continues as part of Paramount+’s expanding lineup, with a story that still has room to grow.
