Patience Episode 5 recap: Paul’s body goes missing and Patience gets a proposal

Patience premiered on January 15, 2025, in the US and the official synopsis of the show, per PBS, says,

Patience Evans works in the Criminal Records Office in the city of York. She views the world in a unique way because she has a special gift – she is autistic. DI Bea Metcalf recognizes her talents and takes her under her wing. Patience helps the police tackle a series of challenging cases by bringing her unique insight to crimefighting.

With new episodes dropping every Sunday, Patience Episode 5 saw the disappearance of Paul’s body and Patience being asked out for a date by Elliot Scott, the crime scene researcher.

Paul’s body vanishes from the morgue in Patience Episode 5

Patience Episode 5, titled My Brother’s Keeper, follows the mysterious death and subsequent disappearance of Billy’s brother Paul. When she comes to know about the news, Patience decides to accompany Billy to the morgue to identify his brother’s body. However, Patience finds no signs of a heart attack, which is what had apparently killed Paul.

After the identification is done, Patience takes Paul's clothes to wash them as she wants to help Billy deal with his loss. However, the very next day, Patience comes to know from Billy that Paul’s body is missing from the morgue, which hints at something sinister.

Bea and Jake are now involved in the case, and the embalmer, upon being questioned, reveals that he was drunk and thus lied about the time of the disappearance of Paul’s body. It turns out that he had heard footsteps but did not notice anything else before realizing that the body was gone.

Given the fact that Paul might have had something that could make AFT, the firm where he worked, lose in the court, made his disappearance even more mysterious. Paul worked as a researcher in AFT and having sensitive company information is what probably risked his life. Based on how the events turned out after Paul’s alleged death, Billy tells Patience that he believes that Paul is alive.

The duo goes to Paul’s palace and finds a bloodied man there. Named Sacha Davidson, the man is an executive assistant in the company where Paul worked. The man has a stab wound, tied with a tie that Billy had gifted to Paul. This almost proves that Paul is alive.

Despite Billy asking Patience not to tell anyone about the tie, she talks about it to Bea and it eventually becomes clear that Paul’s death was fake. He was served something with his food that triggered a death-like response. Billy again calls Patience to his place as it has been turned upside down. It seems like someone was searching for something specific.

Patience ultimately successfully retrieves Paul’s location from Billy and as she finds him, Jenner arrives with a gun pointed at them. However, Bea reaches on time and, with the help of a taser, saves both Paul and Patience. The memory stick that has incriminating evidence against AFT is found in Paul’s clothes that were taken away by Patience for cleaning.

As things come to a close, Patience visits Bea’s party and gifts her a golden thimble as she believes that it would protect her. In the same party, Elliot Scott asks her out for a date. As she did not see this coming, Patience tells him that she cannot give an answer right away.
