Up-and-coming television writer Patrick Macmanus is working on another crime series for Peacock. This time, the writer is working on the series adaptation of Kast Media's Vigilante podcast, which was released in 2022. Set in Dickinson (Texas), the storyline of the podcast revolves around search-and-rescue Tim Miller, who is still dealing with an almost four-decade-old personal trauma.
Patrick Macmanus is set to serve as the executive producer and writer of the Vigilante podcast's TV adaptation, along with Dr. Death Season 2's showrunner, Ashley Michel Hoban. In addition to Macmanus, other executive producers of the series include Kast Media's Colin Thomson, Weimaraner Republic Pictures’ Lynn Harris and Matti Leshem.
What do we know about Patrick Macmanus' Vigilante podcast's TV adaptation for Peacock?
As mentioned earlier, the 2022 podcast is about a real-life Texan search-and-rescue expert, Tim Miller. He has helped the people of the community for years by reuniting countless missing people with their families for decades. But there is one thing that has been bothering him for years: solving his daughter's murder. Now, 38 years later, Miller is convinced that he has solved the situation around his daughter's death and begins to cross a moral line.
The podcast, hosted by private investigator and journalist Allie Conti, explores the theme of grief and the thin line between vengeance and justice. At the time of the podcast's release, Allie Conti said this:
“The more involved I became with this case, the more I started to question Tim’s unusual methods as a detective. But then Tim came through at the last possible second and really seemed to solve the murder. All in all, it was such a thrilling—and at times frightening—experience putting together the pieces of this story, and Kast Media is the ideal partner to help share what I uncovered with audiences.”
Kast Media CEO Colin Thomson also released this statement back in 2022:
“Kast’s approach to the investigative storytelling side of the podcast industry is to craft franchises around a singular concept. In The Opportunist, we explored the ways in which the simple and nearly ubiquitous character trait of opportunism can lead people down a sinister path. With VIGILANTE, we’re exploring stories of people who, for better or worse, decided to take the law into their own hands. Tim Miller’s story was immediately compelling, but only after we started digging deeper did we realize how apt the term ‘vigilante’ really was in his case…”
Thus, the upcoming biographical TV adaptation is rich with themes of grief and vengeance that would pique the interest of a writer like Patrick Macmanus. It is also not surprising that he is involved in this series, considering Macmanus' upcoming series.
Patrick Macmanus also worked on Peacock's Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy:
The scripted eight-episode limited series created by Patrick Macmanus will stream exclusively on Peacock on October 16, 2025. The series promises to explore the story of Gazy, all the investigators who worked on the disturbing case, his murder victims, and their families. The official synopsis of Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy states that it:
"Peels back the twisted layers of Gacy’s life while weaving in heartrending stories of his victims; exploring the grief, guilt, and trauma of their families and friends; and exposing the systemic failures, missed opportunities, and societal prejudices that fueled his reign of terror."
