Peacemaker is set to return with the second season on August 21, but ahead of the season premiere, critics' reviews have flooded in based on the first five episodes of the season and have resulted in a truly astonishing Rotten Tomatoes score.
The DC Universe is currently going through a creative overhaul as it's being built from the ground up. This started with the summer 2025 release of Superman, which has taken the first step in establishing DCU canon. It was preceded only by an animated series, Creature Commandos.
Peacemaker is the only project so far that has been brought over from the DCEU, the DC Extended Universe. The hero first made his debut in The Suicide Squad (2021), leading into a titular spin-off that premiered in 2022.
Finally, after a three-year wait, James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU is giving fans the opportunity to join John Cena as Christopher Smith for the second season of the show. This wait, as it turns out, might just be worth it, as the early critics' reviews for the first five episodes have been very positive, earning the show a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score based on 28 critics' reviews (at the time of writing).
A 100% early RT score for John Cena's Peacemaker Season 2

When The Suicide Squad premiered in 2021, John Cena's Peacemaker emerged as a hilarious yet conflicted anti-hero. Since then, the vulgar and colorful world that this hero brings to life has been a fan favorite, leading to a spin-off titular series and a renewal for a second season, even after a new DCU was born.
Now, the second season is closer than ever to premier, with less than a week left before the audience joins Cena on another adventure. This is also the perfect time for the early critic reviews to roll in for the first five episodes of the show. The critic reviews that have emerged have been wholly positive for the DC series.
To expand, the reviews have been so positive that the show has debuted with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a percentage that is devised on the basis of positive reviews that a title has received. At the time of writing, Peacemaker has received 28 reviews, out of which all 28 have been positive reviews; therefore, it is counted as a fresh tomato instead of a rotten one.

Albeit the sample size is quite small for the perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, considering Superman's 83% score is based on almost 500 critic reviews. Additionally, this score might be subject to change as the number of reviews increases when more reviews start rolling in. The show doesn't have a Popcornmeter score at the moment, which is the score awarded based on the audience reactions, considering it will hit HBO Max on August 21.
Nevertheless, the early 100% Rotten Tomatoes score bodes really well for the James Gunn series, as it will convince viewers to approach the new era of the DC Universe with an open mind and as a possibly real contender to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Peacemaker Season 2 is all set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, with its first episode, and a weekly release schedule that sets the season finale premiere on October 9.
