Peacemaker Season 2 meets a tough competitor who is climbing charts

Peacemaker Season 2, released on 21st August 2025, has released four episodes until now and has become one of the most popular shows on HBO Max. Since season one was released in 2022, there has been considerable anticipation for season two. John Cena's performance as the titular character and James Gunn's new vision for DC have made fans love the show.

While Peacemaker Season 2 has been climbing the charts, a new HBO Max show is giving it tough competition. Task, a crime drama starring Mark Ruffalo as the lead, premiered on 7th September 2025 on HBO Max and has become the most popular show on the platform, as Collider reports.

Task is a tough competitor to Peacemaker Season 2

Task, created by Brad Ingelsby, follows Tom Brandis, an FBI agent, as he tries to stop Robbie Prendergast from committing dangerous robberies. The show has released just one episode, Crossings, and has already become a hit on HBO. Almost any good show with a strong story and cast gets high ratings initially. However, if Task maintains its popularity in the upcoming weeks, it might give Peacemaker Season 2 quite the competition.

As of now, Peacemaker Season 2 has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 99%, while Task has a rating of 89%. While Task has not yet exceeded Peacemaker Season 2 in terms of Rotten Tomatoes ratings, the difference isn't much, and the Ruffalo-led show can easily catch up if its future episodes do well.

One honestly cannot guess now how this competition will pan out because both shows have a good cast and crew. While Gunn is the creator behind Peacemaker, Brad Ingelsby, who also created Mare of Easttown, is behind Task. Both Peacemaker and Task have notable actors in their cast. While Peacemaker Season 2 has long-term fans along with new ones, Task has the opportunity to appeal to everyone with a fresh new story. Thus, only future episodes of both shows will determine which will be the most popular.

Peacemaker Season 2 stars John Cena as Peacemaker, or Chris Smith; Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo; Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt; Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, or Vigilante; Steve Agee as John Economos; Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith; Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., David Denman as Keith Smith, or Captain Triumph; Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux; and Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury.

The second season follows Peacemaker as he discovers an alternate universe, which is exactly how he would want his life to be. He is a loved superhero: something he always wanted to be but was never recognized as in the real world. However, discovery also makes him confront his past trauma, and he now has to determine how to frame his future.

Task's cast includes Mark Ruffalo as Tom Brandis, Tom Pelphrey as Robbie Prendergast, Emilia Jones as Maeve, Fabien Frankel as Anthony Grasso, Thuso Mbedu as Aleah Clinton, Raúl Castillo as Cliff Broward, Alison Oliver as Lizzie Stover, Owen Teague as Peaches, Silvia Dionicio as Emily, Martha Plimpton as Kathleen McGinty, Jamie McShane as Perry, and Sam Keeley as Jayson, among others.

Task is a miniseries that will have seven episodes. The first episode was released on 7th September 2025, and the second one, Family Statements, will be released on 14th September. All episodes of Task will be released weekly on Sundays, and all episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 will be released on Thursdays.

Released episodes of both shows are streaming on HBO Max.
