Peacemaker star Nhut Le reveals what Judomaster was doing in the time between the two Seasons

The return of Judomaster in Peacemaker Season 2 provided ample laughs, violence, and one massive revelation: that he has not been sitting around in the intervening seasons. Actor Nhut Le revealed in a conversation with The Direct that the green-suited fighter has been keeping himself occupied with side missions, rather than taking retirement.

His quest finally brings him face-to-face with ARGUS. Fans also noticed fun props and little Easter eggs (yes, this includes Judomaster’s particular food preferences), letting viewers see how James Gunn and the writers are balancing character details and fun hints throughout the Season 2 episodes.

What Nhut Le said and what it means for Judomaster

When Nhut Le refers to Judomaster as a “freelance mercenary" in The Direct interview, do not imagine some gangster who counts money in the darkness. Rather imagine a good fighter who has a job that aligns with his own understanding of right and wrong.

Judomaster did not simply vanish after the insanity of Project Butterfly in Season 1. He continued to work, fight and abide by his own code. This is why he appears stronger and more serious in the second season of Peacemaker. Now, he is someone who does not drift, he makes his way.

This “freelance" aspect also fits his comic book origins in which he tends to be a lone warrior who favors hand-to-hand combat and direct one-on-one confrontations. It is also a clever way for the writers of the show to keep Judomaster moving between storylines, like a flexible agent, always prepared, always threatening when ARGUS calls.

“He failed at saving Project Butterfly from the 11th Street kids. So, now I think he's sort of a freelance mercenary. And after episode three, you see that he gets enlisted with ARGUS, so he's going to join their team to bring down the Peacemaker,” Nhut Le told The Direct.

In interviews and back-stage posts, Nhut Le mentioned that he underwent physical training for this comeback, but had fun doing it. It is that seriousness combined with light humor that makes the tone of the show work so effectively.

Why Judomaster joining ARGUS is an important arc in Peacemaker Season 2

Episode 3 of Peacemaker Season 2 does not simply present Judomaster with a new mission, it places him in an alliance with ARGUS, a government agency full of rules, red tape and dubious intentions. To someone who is accustomed to working alone, that is a big change.

Pairing him with John Economos (yes, the character of Steve Agee) creates an instant tension. Nhut Le also refers to his character’s dynamic with Peacemaker as a “brawn versus brains” set-up, where Judomaster uses skill and discipline while Peacemaker uses raw power.

Judomaster’s ARGUS connection increases the stakes in Season 2 as well. Judomaster is not fighting arbitrary battles now. His operations are linked to larger schemes that may have an impact on the greater DC universe. Meanwhile, the show does not forget his idiosyncrasies, such as his strange preference for Cheetos. These little, humourous details make him more human that fans so adore.

What this means for Peacemaker Season 2, DCU and Nhut Le

From being a small-time troublemaker to becoming an ARGUS recruit, Judomaster's evolution is proof that James Gunn's Peacemaker isn't treating characters as throwaways. Rather, it's establishing connections.

Side characters now have the opportunity of appearing in larger DCU stories, surprise cameos, or as crossovers from one franchise to another. For fans, that means Judomaster could appear anywhere, and the show's numerous Easter eggs suggest that those appearances will be planned, not random.

For actor Nhut Le, the part is a major coup. He's getting more screen time, more action scenes and the opportunity to display both his martial arts and his sense of humor. He has been very open about how much fun he's having, in interviews and on the net.

Put it all together, and Judomaster is no longer just a quirky side character in Season 2; he's becoming an important, unpredictable part of the larger DC universe.
