Peaky Blinders Season 1 Episode 2 recap revisited: Inspector Campbell’s surprising crackdown and Shelbys’ feud with the Lees

BBC's Peaky Blinders premiered in 2013 and is considered one of the best period crime dramas of the 21st century. The series revolved around the lives of the Shelby family and the exploits of their criminal gang, the Peaky Blinders, led by Thomas/Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy).

Season 1 began with introducing the Shelby brothers returning from war and taking over their business of fixing horse races, along the way making new enemies. After Tommy's men steal an entire crate of ammunition, they come under the radar of Inspector Campbell, who, in Episode 2 of Season 1, raids the Blinders' establishments to look for the weapons.

As he fails to find any, he sets a meeting with Tommy, where they decide to make an alliance to not meddle in each other's work. While Campbell agrees, he still tasks Grace to get closer to Tommy and find out about the ammunition.

Furthermore, the Shelbys also begin a feud with the Gypsey family, the Lees, and try to convince Billy Kimber to join them in their fight with the Lees.

Peaky Blinders Season 1 Episode 2 recap revisited: Tommy's ingenious plan against Campbell's surprise crackdown

Inspector Campbell's efforts to search for the stolen guns take him to plan a surprising crackdown in Episode 2 of Peaky Blinders Season 1. He and his special force begin searching all of the Shelbys' establishments by telling them that he was looking for traitors and communists. However, he does not find any of the weapons.

To retaliate, Tommy plans a bonfire where he decides to burn the picture of the King and also calls a reporter. He gives a speech about how he and the other citizens went to war for the King and how the Belfast police's intrusion in their lives has been uncalled for. This prompts Prime Minister Winston Churchill to call and reprimand Campbell for his actions. He then decides to meet Tommy and asks Polly to fix a meeting between them.

Tommy and Campbell come face-to-face in Episode 2 of Peaky Blinders Season 1. In the meeting, Tommy asks Campbell to help him move up the ladder in the political undergrounds and to stay away from his business of fixing horse races in exchange for the weapons. While Campbell agrees to work with him, he still orders Grace to get closer to Tommy and find out the location of the stolen weapons.

Elsewhere, Aunt Polly takes Ada to another town after learning she was pregnant with Freddie Thorne's baby. However, before they can abort the baby, they find Freddie waiting for her and proposes to her. Ada agrees, and the duo decides to stay in Birmingham even when Freddie's life is in danger.

Apart from Tommy's conflict with Inspector Campbell, he is also seen arguing with Aunt Polly about the fixing business that they had been doing, and also going behind Billy Kimber's back. She argues with him about putting all of their lives in danger.

On the other hand, the Shelbys also begin a feud with the Gypsey family of the Lees. And when Kimber and his men confront the Blinders. Tommy tries to persuade him to join them in their fight against the Lees.

At the end, Tommy invites Grace to join him for the horse races, giving her the window of opportunity to get closer to him.
