"Please don't mess up Molly": Apple TV's sci-fi adaptation Neuromancer goes into production as fans get hopes up

Apple TV+ is bringing William Gibson’s Neuromancer to the screen, and fans couldn’t be more excited about the news. First published in 1984, the story is set in a dystopian future with advanced technology. Neuromancer has a cult following, especially for popularizing the cyberpunk subgenre.

Apple TV+ recently announced that production of the show is underway. Fans took to online platforms to share their reactions to the announcement.

Apple TV+’s Neuromancer will consist of 10 episodes. The series cast includes Callum Turner as Case, Briana Middleton as Molly, Joseph Lee, Mark Strong, Cleménce Poésy, Peter Sarsgaard, André De Shields, and Max Irons, among others.

The show is created by Graham Roland, known for Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, and J.D. Dillard, known for The Outsider. Neuromancer will be co-produced by Skydance Television, Anonymous Content, Apple Original Films, and DreamCrew Entertainment. Roland will serve as the showrunner, while Dillard will direct the pilot episode.

According to IMDb, the synopsis of the show states,

"A damaged hacker named Case, thrust into digital espionage and high stakes crime with Molly, pulling a heist on corporate dynasty."

What is Neuromancer about?

Neuromancer explores the subject of a dystopian world where AI and humans coexist, but with its own challenges, including corruption and hacking. An artificial intelligence called Wintermute is on a mission to merge with another AI, Neuromancer, and will team up with Case, a computer hacker, cybernetically enhanced mercenary Molly Millions, and others to perform data thefts.

Neuromancer by William Gibson was released 41 years ago and remains one of the most influential science fiction novels today. It received critical acclaim and won awards like the Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards, among others.
