Part of the brilliance of Apple TV's Pluribus lies in the fact that it has left the internet and fans of the show buzzing with theories, interpretations, and questions. To make this experience even more intriguing, creator Vince Gilligan has refused to explain anything about the show or to confirm or deny some of these theories.

Instead, leaving it all up to the audience to take away what they want from Rhea Seehorn's Carol's one-woman mission to figure out how the hivemind came to be and how she can reverse it. So, however wild the interpretation is, Gilligan isn't going to shut it down.

One such theory that has popped up on the Internet compares Pluribus to the popular game Grand Theft Auto, and the creator refuses to call even that a misinterpretation. Keep reading to find out more about Villigan's reaction to the comparison between the Apple TV show and the video game.

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan has previously expressed that the one thing he won't be repeating from his earlier shows is talking about the meaning of his show and explaining what he meant or didn't. According to him, the process of telling the audience what he meant took away from the experience of those shows, and that is something he didn't wish to repeat with Pluribus.

So, this time around, Vince Gilligan is leaving it up to the audience watching to figure out what the show means and what it is trying to say. Gilligan wants them to tell him what the show is about, if it's about growing AI, if it's about the pandemic, or a great number of other things. In a recent conversation with Dexerto, the Pluribus creator explained this:

"The thing I care most about is people watch it and enjoy it and it makes them think,” he continued. “The highest compliment of all is if people rewatch something that we’ve made… I really don’t know that I’ve heard any interpretation where I’ve said, ‘That’s wrong!’"

So, Gilligan won't be discrediting any theory, no matter how wild it is, even if it goes as far as comparing Apple TV's Pluribus to the famous game Grand Theft Auto. Maybe it's the police car stealing or the visuals of Carol being the only individual with free will making decisions, but the Apple TV show is being compared to the popular game.

Reacting to the outlandish theory, Gilligan went as far as agreeing to the comparison and finding a connecting spot between the two wildly different projects. He explained:

"I guess that’s true! You drive because the cops are trying to get you in Grand Theft Auto and you just do whatever you want."

It's a weak comparison at best, but it goes to show just how committed the creatives behind Pluribus are to letting the audience think, ask questions, and draw their own conclusions about the show rather than policing any answers.
