Pluribus is the latest Vince Gilligan series on Apple TV that has gained quite some traction ever since its news broke out. It released on 7th November and two episodes have been out so far. The show has confused its viewers, making them wonder what the show is even about.

The logline of the show reads as follows:

"The most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness."

This alone is enough to leave its viewers confused and come up with several theories of their own. Pluribus calls itself a a sci-fi show but it's actually a puzzle about what it means to be human. It's about how connection and control can blur the line between salvation and danger. We’re seeing the effects of the global hive mind takeover. We're also seeing how the immunes are reacting to to everything happening around them.

The mystery is only going to become thicker as the story progresses. We don’t yet know if the hive is a force for good or for ill. That uncertainty is part of the fun with Pluribus.

Pluribus Episode 3: Top theories and what to watch for

The creators are stretching the payoff in this show. They’ve hinted that answers will come slowly. So, Episode 3 will further deepen our questions. It is up to the viewers as of now to pick apart what the hive is doing and what Carol’s immunity might cost her and the world.

The title of the episode is Grenade. That itself hints that things will heat up fast. It feels like the story is ready for a major shift. Maybe something blows open in the plot. Or someone pushes too hard. Or maybe the hive tries something new to corner Carol.

The first thing that comes to mind about Episode 3 is the tension inside that plane. Carol is now traveling with Koumba, Zosia, and the other girls. That choice cannot be taken lightly. She wants time with them. She wants to understand what they actually want and why some feel drawn to the hive.

She also saw something shift inside Zosia in Pluribus Episode 2. It was as if Zosia remembered she had her own mind for a second. Carol would never ignore something like that. So Episode 3 might show her trying to bring that spark back and guide the group toward her idea of freedom.

There is also a good chance we get answers about how the joining actually works. The first two episodes introduced the signal and the idea of a single mind spread across the world. Pluribus Episode 3 can build on that by giving us small hints about the source. The show has been careful with clues, so any new detail will matter. We might also see Carol trying to keep control of herself because her emotions still send shockwaves through the hive.

Pluribus might also show in Episode 3 that the hive is not just a virus but a conscious intelligence acting with purpose. We’ve already seen signs of unity and control in the hive. Multiple reviews and interviews hint at this bigger picture.

Another strong theory is that Carol’s emotional power in Pluribus will become central to the plot. We know that her anger triggers reactions in the hive. Fans are already betting that she might awaken or weaponize that ability. There’s good evidence for this because the show is clearly highlighting her unique status and the consequence of her feelings. It’s very Gilligan-like to build the story around a flawed person whose strength is as dangerous as it is necessary.
