Here is what happens in Poker Face Season 2 episode 4
The episode's opening doesn't feature Charlie but a flashback from 2019. We see that Fran Lamont, played by Gaby Hoffmann, is nominated for her outstanding, diligent work as a small-town police officer. However, she is not planning to attend the show as she doesn't like to be in the limelight. But Chief Hal Pendleton persuades her, and she finally agrees to attend the ceremony.
However, she returns disheartened as the "Cop of the Year" award goes to Officer Joseph Pilson, later known as Gator Joe, because he rescued a baby alligator named Daisy. At the time of the incident, nobody knew him, but this stunt of his became his brand.
Fran didn't get immediately angry, but the seed of resentment was planted, and over the next six years, Gator became a viral media personality with his TikTok reels, energy drinks catchphrases, etc. Meanwhile, Fran remains a more serious and professional personality who is often left unrewarded, invisible, and overshadowed in the world.
During the 2025 Flopa Copas, she believes that now this is her year, when finally she will be recognised. She showed up again bearing a new style — a new look for what she hopes will be a new chapter, but backstage, she witnesses how every award has Gator's name on it. She realised this is not a fair competition as the system only rewards spectacle and not real service. It transforms Fran’s passive disillusionment into active bitterness, setting her on the path to the darkly comic murder plot that drives the episode.
Fran's Revenge goes wrong in Poker Face season 2, Episode 4

Fran decides to take her revenge, and she slips reptile laxatives into Joe’s "2 Hour Power Juice" energy drink. Her plan was only to humiliate him at the awards. But she miscalculates the dose, and it ends up killing Joe. This further panics Fran, and she attempts to cover it up. She comes up with yet another plan to get away with the body. She feeds meth to Daisy (the alligator) to provoke her to eat Joe's body. This plot is wild, gruesome, and deeply dark-comedy coded, perfectly complementing the show's theme.
Now the show comes back on to Charlie, who has bonded with Daisy. She meets a group of animal rights activists planning to disrupt Flopa Copas by freeing Daisy. Charlie has no idea what Flopa Copas means and knows that she is about to crash a cop event.
Once Daisy eats Gator Joe in front of a ballroom full of Florida cops, the episode goes full farce. Charlie is stuck in the middle of a murder mystery centring on Gator, which has now turned darkly comedic. Cops want to kill Daisy, however, Charlie knows that it is Fran, and the key evidence to the murder is Gator's sunglasses, which are inside Daisy's stomach now. Fran is now behind killing Daisy before she poop the sunglasses out.
This is how the episode of Poker Face relied not on suspense but absurd escalation of events.
