Chefs often share such lesser-known yet effective and helpful techniques to help interested and upcoming chefs in their cooking and chopping. In the recent video clip that Brian shared, he showed the angle, how to get started while chopping the chives, and how to cut them in a "great round" shape.

Showing how each thing is supposed to be done, including the motion, Cutthroat Kitchen: Knives Out host said it is not about the speed but about the "precision."

"You wanna keep them round. So it's all in the motion. All the exact same size. Using your finger as the guide. My knife is at a perfect right angle. They have their great round shape in there. They're not smashed or not bruised. That shows that I came to get a job with a very sharp knife, right? It's not how much I can do how quickly. It's how the precision is done," said Brian.

Food Network show Cutthroat Kitchen: Knives Out host Brian was recently featured in a video clip, aired on August 2, 2025. The caption stated that it was "all about the CHIVES!"

Sharing the "little life hack" from his friend, chef Rocco DiSpirito, Brian said there was a technique and passion to do that. In addition to that, a sharp knife was also a requirement.

"If you want to nail your next interview for a cooking position… yes, you need technique, yes, you need passion, and yes, you definitely need a sharp knife. But, if you want to know the real secret, it’s simple. It’s chives. High Chive Me!!" read the caption.

The video clip featured Cutthroat Kitchen: Knives Out host Brian getting a bunch of chives and dividing them into two smaller piles. He said he wanted some "perfect chives" and not some "hacked up" ones. He talked about cutting and "not crushing" them.

To get the round shape, the first thing to do was to cut the initial part and make them all even. Before he started the chopping, Brian mentioned it was all about the "motion."

For that, the knife should be at the "perfect right angle." As he started to chop, the chef mentioned it was about precision, not about the speed. He showed how one can follow the heck he just shared and have themselves perfectly chopped chives for various recipes.
