The Primetime Emmy 2025 race has officially begun. And it looks like streaming platforms are in for a fierce showdown. With the first two categories revealed earlier, fans already had plenty to buzz about. Announced on CBS Mornings on July 15, the first wave of nominations set the tone for what’s shaping up to be a star-studded year packed with returning favorites and breakout hits.
Brenda Song (Running Point) and Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) led the announcement. They revealed the full list of contenders for the Primetime Emmy Awards in a livestream at 8:30 a.m. PT. There are dramas across different genres, comedies, and limited series.
Netflix is making a strong showing at the Primetime Emmy race with Adolescence at the center. The show is a one-take limited series revolving around a boy accused of murder. It’s joined by other top contenders like Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Black Mirror.
HBO and Max are betting on juggernauts like Hacks, The Last of Us, The Penguin, and The White Lotus.
Apple TV+ also enters the Primetime Emmy competition with strong entries like Severance and The Studio, both earning nominations in multiple major categories. The platform is also recognized in the Primetime Emmy race for acclaimed shows like Slow Horses and Shrinking.
